Today I am officially open again for new book pitches. You will find details on how to do that on our site. I am going to do a quick thread here on some things I'd love to see in my query inbox this year. www.headwaterliterary.com

Happy publication day to Eoin Higgins, whose new book OWNED is now available wherever books are sold! If you want to understand how we reached this crisis point at the confluence of tech, media, and venture capital, this is THE book.

One of my biggest-kept secrets of 2024 went live today! Congrats @smhallow.bsky.social 🎉🎉🎉

S. M. Hallow's THE HALLS OF THE DEAD, a queer, gothic romance set in Victorian London, in which a woman who has dedicated her life to protecting the necromantic secrets held in sentient grimoires bound with human skin brings her murdered beloved back to life with dire consequences, to David Pomerico at Voyager, in a good deal, at auction, in a two-book deal, for publication in spring 2026, by Laura Zats at Headwater Literary Management (world).

We've learned that someone is impersonating Erik over email and maybe even by phone. We are working to address this of course. In the meantime, remember that no reputable agent--including and especially a Headwater agent!--will ask you for up-front money as part of a rep. agreement.

Tbh writing any book for traditional publication is by definition a long shot. And every single element of our lives is politicized, so from where I’m sitting? Write the book you can’t stand to not write. If it’s off-trend market-wise, just wait. It’ll come around again.

Hi, I'm Erik. I'm a literary agent and one of the founders of @headwaterlit.bsky.social. I also host @printrunpodcast.bsky.social, a show about the publishing industry that, if you followed me because of that publishing starter pack, you will love. I do both these things with @lzats.bsky.social.
