You know what’s crazy? Metasequoia gylptostroboides (Dawn Redwood) was thought to be extinct on earth for around 20 million years until it was discovered in a forest in inland China in the 1940s. It was propagated heavily and is now very common. It’s a prehistoric species. 🔥

First bonsai class in the books. Finished my first full repot experience on this Kishu Shimpaku juniper. Learning the basics properly while accounting for the horticulture concerns of the species are extremely important to the health of the tree. Learned a ton today. #bonsai #pnw

This is probably my last major acquisition this season but damn it may have instantly became my favorite specimen! This is metasequoia glyptostroboides ‘Silhouette’. It is a compact, variegated dawn redwood cultivar that remains smaller than its kin. Air layers next year. Can’t wait. #pnw #bonsai
