I dunno BBS loves reheating leftovers I think they were trying to ride the line not making Terra unlikable, not being too much of a downer, and maybe trying to create uncertainty if he'd actually succumb, but the end result is every world he learns a valuable lesson and then falls to darkness

honestly a criticism I have of BBS's story is Terra doesn't really get corrupted, he never really crosses any moral thresholds or does anything remotely bad his big turning point moment is saying "I won't let you hurt my friends"

there have definitely been bigger turn arounds in gaming history but it's kinda crazy how like everything people criticized about KH2 has looped around to being a beloved thing they stopped doing reaction commands because people HATED them in KH2 back in the day

I do think a lot of the problems with how people view Terra as a character is they don't really consider his circumstances, but I don't think you can blame people for that because BBS rushes past establishing its characters because critics hated the Roxas prologue in KH2

Is he just supposed to completely abandon his singular driving force? How is he supposed to succeed simply with the absence of a goal? That's not even to say anything about how Terra's reason for wanting power is to protect the people he cares about, he's hardly ignoble

Eraqus is the only parental and authority figure Terra has, and he fails him quite a lot, because he started at his own level with being dogmatic about darkness and never tried to operate on Terra's level, so what is Terra supposed to replace seeking power with?

and the thing is I had the means to pick up on what was going on, because sometimes I'd have a slice of pizza or something and comment how I felt weirdly good, despite it being unhealthy, but my parents just said it was because I was addicted to junk food
