So much noise is made about whether this method works better than other methods, or whether other methods can hit the same targets. To be totally honest, I think it's just fundamentally wrong for a left, ostensibly socially responsible party, to be using tactics that can be so easily predatory.

And even if accounting for that, if they're still only testing for fundraising revenue, then they're disregarding the morale effects, the pipeline to gaining new volunteers, and just generally what looks and aligns best politically/philosophically for a green movement.

Even if they did testing now, part of the problem is that strategies that appear to work in the short-term tend to be favoured over the ones that take much longer to build, and the existing strategies are about urgency and reminding people with frequency.

The Greens have been doing these awful emails for years. Even when they don't come off as begging or preying on shame/guilt, they're still delivering their messages poorly. Which is a strong contrast to how they're playing the news. They're doing good there! But the fundraising side... oof.

Yeah, I found it after seeing the screenshot. I guess I must have looked at Finder > Settings, because that's where I expect persistent options to be, while View is mainly stuff that matters only for that window so I didn't look too hard.

This is a fair point. A lot of software did run terribly with the hardware of the time. Also easy to forget all the stability problems that hardware drivers caused that don't show anymore. I guess it's more just a sign that despite hardware improvements, software has meant little actually improved.

People a little older are also like this with XP, and I dunno, every time I pull up an XP VM to run old software or get screenshots of things, I'm reminded that while we may have lost a lot in the responsiveness camp, usability used to be rouuuughhh sometimes.

In all seriousness, Polymarket being normalised in NZ politics is not OK, and whatever excuses Henry Cooke makes for why he's done so doesn't make it OK. We deserve a better standard of political reporting than copy paste horse race gambling.

This was me with music for the longest time. When learning, I find it easy to fall into repeated patterns that "work", and not yet be discerning/critical enough to keep myself from finishing. Then I later compare stuff I finished before with the stuff I can't finish now, and think "Oh, I suck now."

Yeah, I usually write with Fountain in a text editor, or for use with another project that has a custom parser, but I haven't really used the editor for it in Fade In. I guess that is still _an_ option. Was just kinda hoping there was some kind of inline autocomplete option. Not a big deal though. 😅

@fadeinpro.com Is there a way (or plans for a way) to write markdown (or other shorthand), and have Fade In apply it? I usually find that easier than selecting text and hitting shortcuts, or having to change formatting in advance. Though maybe I also shouldn't be using italics in a script so much.

"I should make this character say something like X. Slight twist on an ordinary saying, and it feels in character. I like it!" Look over the rest of the script to edit it. Character says the exact same thing a couple pages later. Folks, this may come as a shock, but I may in fact be predictable.
