So I just finished the first section of the Chapek book, and I’ll sum it up like this: I have often accused TWDC of actively resenting their parks guests, and some folks said that was too far, but this book is proof straight from the source that I was absolutely spot on with that assessment

I miss it. A lot. I miss the old community and what it was. I miss the purpose, the fun, and why I wanted to live and work in Irvine to begin with. I miss the evenings spent at the resort after work, the ambition of the entertainment and operations to keep that audience enagaged.

Of everything rumored - this seems the most realistic to me. The building that is the Matterhorn is mostly wood, and those yearly track rebuilds have got to really be getting up there cost-wise.

Mine was that same Tandy 1000! Got it for $5 from a Garage Sale in like ~1993. Called Radio Shack to see if they had DOS disks for it, and they helped me find/make some!

McDonald's isn't doing the free codes via the Internet this year, and instead switched back to sending a SASE to a PO Box. They must have given away so much stuff. I was getting my full 8 codes via the web everyday almost the whole game.

Play App died today, closing another piece of my decade+ of Disney interactivity. touringplans.com/blog/saturda... This little app (and its team) tried to do was "prioritize play, connection, and the boundless potential of imagination". Thanks for everything. I'll always be part of Gaya's Crew.

Saw Coyote vs. Acme, and I was much rougher than I expected. Overall lots of the Looney Tunes gags were good, and there's a good message in there - but the whole movie is a bit of a mess. Also not hard to hear the ADR in the movie, I have no idea what this plot looked like before the tweaks.

So the Planet Coaster developers are working with Disney on a Creative Management Simulation game, that they will fully fund. Interesting! Gonna be wild if we get an actual Disney Parks management game!

Thanks to user CoasterK24 on the other site for her intrepid reporting: “Hey look, it’s Dr. Grant Seeker taking a vacation in GERMANY? Hes clearly trying to find that Iguanodon, and is walking away from the Carnotaurus artifacts, clearly not our dino.”

The miniature train set outside the Germany pavilion in Epcot. A lab coated, khaki’d, brown haired fella is sneaking’ away with an egg. Other miniatures are all “Ach du lieber! Zomevone hast schtolen our eggen!”

Multiple crates of fossils are shown surrounded by very German looking miniatures. One has a big Carnotaurus skull in it (it’s literally labeled — definitely not our dino) while another, labeled IGUANODON EGG is empty. The implication is that it got stolen, you see.

In happier theme park gameplay news, Knott's / Six Flags has released the fourth iteration of their interactive lantern for the 2026 haunt season. This improved version features a new "color collector" experience in addition to previous modes, and, for the first time, a speaker for sound effects!

I'm gonna be slightly optimistic here and say the biggest reason they are doing this fill is that the plastic ALSO ended up being a huge tripping hazard. This might be the longer-term fix until there's a better solution.

Datapad and the whole Play app was basically in statis after Starcruiser closed, unfortunately. Fun fact: Nearly launched (probably Star Wars day 2020 - assuming COVID wouldn't have hit), there was a pack of 9 new missions across Batuu that was going to be available for sale in the app for like $3.
