This is a solar eclipse. Seen from the surface of Mars by the Perseverance rover in 2022. That moon is the little space potato Phobos. And you can even see sunspots!

After reporting the news, games media must now grapple with what the call to boycott Xbox means for us. I wrote about why we must and how we can orient games writing towards liberation. Games nor words alone will save us, but we can as individuals express solidarity and possibility in all we do.

Here's my image of the moon tonight during the partial eclipse. This was taken via eyepiece projection to my cell phone camera. The telescope is an Astro-Tech AT102ED, and the eyepiece is a barlowed vintage 25mm Celestron Kellner.

A timelapse sequence of the #PartialLunarEclipse this morning. It covers 01:44 to 04:45 BST, so getting most of the #LunarEclipse (the #Moon went behind some trees for the last hour of the penumbral phase so I couldn't quite get the entire event). #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Another year, another 🪐 📷 2015, 2016, and then annually from 2020.
7 telescopic views of Saturn arranged in a horizontal line. All Saturns are tilted approximately 45° (the planet's north pole 'pointing' off to the top left). Left most images fuzzier, and with the rings more open, as the images progress to the right they get sharper, and the rings become more and more 'edge on'.

This is an amazing movie of a uniquely positioned and timed dust storm. This was about Ls=98°, which is not dust storm season, and Olympus Mons is not typically dusty. See this figure from my 2023 paper. I have an arrow in the time of year the movie is from.
Seasonal variation of the frequency of dust storm activity from MDAD v1.1 for six Mars sub-seasons. (a) Ls=0◦–70◦, (b) Ls=70◦–135◦, (c) Ls=135◦–185◦, (d) Ls=185◦–245◦, (e) Ls=245◦–295◦, and (f) Ls=295◦–360◦. The total number of sols in each Mars year with MDGM images used for dust storm identification is 340, 551, 616, 623, and 358. The background map is the median Mars sol from MARCI during MY 28–31, inclusive. From Battalio+2023.
