The only tricky thing left is how to handle floating UI like this share button It's tricky to figure out some heuristics for how much padding those need to have to align with toolbars

"The best way to build an app is with Swift and SwiftUI" is closer to SwiftUI 1.0's reveal than today It also predates ChatGPT. Wild

Device Hub would *feel* 10x nicer if they used a clear or Liquid Glass window style All the controls are in glass anyway, so you can just get rid of that big ass white background

Hmm the Xcode 27.1 beta doesn't even have the beta badge on the icon. This definitely feels rushed

Harshil @harshil.net · 19/09/2026
So if the Xcode 27.1 beta was going to be ready in just another couple days why did they drop the Xcode 27.2 beta right before?

There are also a bunch of improvements for workouts! You can now see 10K splits for your long runs, and when you want to share a workout there are new layouts and a slick new theme picker

There are also 18 (eighteen!) new themes in this release! They're inspired by neutral colours for fall: Brown, Slate, and Mono, and in a whole bunch of styles I'm personally a huge fan of slate. It's a slightly cooler, bluer grey

The new Comparisons widget lets you quickly compare your progress this week, month, or year to the previous one It shows you where you were at the same point in time, and also where you are projected to finish

The Benchmarks widget with its heatmap-style chart is a crowd favourite, and in the larger sizes it now shows a graph for your progress over the last 12 months!

Every Goals widget has been updated to let you track 3 goals at once, up to 8 on the larger sizes! I really love that this works on the smaller sizes as well, even on Apple Watch! You can also just set up one goal to see more stats!

Today in Apple development: Xcode 27 no longer lets you drag and drop arbitrary files into the simulator Solution? I'm adding my files to transfer to my blog's static directory, loading that up in Safari on the sim, and downloading it from there

Today is extremely niche SwiftUI bugs: If you have a TabView > non-default tab > NavigationSplitView > sidebar which hides the sidebarToggle You see a bunch of extra space at the top until the next layout pass

Alright iOS 27 question: What the hell are we doing with the nav bars??? Are we keeping the new default "hard" blurs or going back to iOS 26-style "soft" blurs?

I'm going to start calling myself a "designovert"
“Jobs, however, was convinced that this could be Apple’s next big hit. Jony Ive worked up 20 prototype designs of various sizes. The new product couldn’t actually be a big iPod Touch, because the aspect ratio (proportions) of its tall, skinny screen weren’t a good fit for newspapers, magazines, and TV viewing. Ive and Jobs settled on 4:3 proportions, which suggested a sheet of paper or a book—and when rotated 90 degrees, a TV screen.
This time, recovering from his liver transplant, Jobs didn’t have the health or the energy to oversee every detail, as he had on the iPhone. When he was too sick to come in to work, the team visited him at home to show him their progress.
“And as we started showing him slides and designs, the energy just came,” Forstall says. “He would stand up and be like, ‘Oh, what about this?’ You talk about people who are extroverts and introverts—extroverts get their energy when they’re in a crowd, and introverts get their energy from being alone? Steve was like a designovert. He got his energy when he was designing.”
