Yep, this has been a glaring flaw from the start, but the tech industry appears to blithely assume there will always be Content because there has always been Content in the past.

It can't just be one relegation. They'll come straight back after having a jolly old time winning the Championship. Send them to League 2.

"The league said the commission had found City used schemes “to artificially inflate the club’s revenues, and reduce its costs, by more than £900m during the affected period, to appear to comply with financial rules”. £900 million.

I genuinely think that a lot of people who don't like football/rugby/cricket and actively support a team could do with it in their lives. Healthy to have something relatively trivial to care about.

Reminder: Football supporters owe their clubs protective scrutiny, not blind backing for the wrongdoing of owners who wouldn't drag them out of a burning building.

That it's an Apple foldable also means you can use it with News+ which is genuinely excellent for magazines and papers and a snip at £13 a month of so if you use it a lot and/or cancel an existing sub to something that's on there.

I saw the Guehi one yesterday and it just made me feel extremely awkward. Practically shouted 'Just leave him alone, let him get on!' at the TV.

Get the point. But we would continue to buy books because the library app user experience isn't great and the selection is poor. And people like owning books.

Yeah, that's my guess too. A licence that means only one person can read an e-book at a time? Extremely silly though.

Downloaded the app my local library offers e-books on. Found a book I wanted to read. It's 'on loan' until January. Oh. What?

Entry level iPad is, what, £400? Plus an older iPhone that I bought refurbished. Personally very happy with that combo.

Once again I fail to see how this is much better than having a regular-sized phone and an iPad. In what scenarios do you actually want the big screen where an iPad couldn’t do the job? Also it’s two grand.

Bill Bryson on the RNLI in "The Road to Little Dribbling : more notes from a small island" (2015)
I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people - teachers, plumbers, the guy
who runs the pub - drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that? The RNLI - I looked this up later - is an organization run by volunteers, supported entirely by public donations. It maintains 233 stations around the coast of Britain and averages twenty-two call-outs per day. It saves 350 lives a year on average.
