It’s day four of asking my daughter if she fancies a run after tea, until she says yes. Yesterday’s response…

This is one of the best uses of a hyperlink I have ever seen in a BBC News story. Straight to the NHS First aid web page on CPR. Bravo.

To succeed on Substack you have to understand that everything is a matter of cultural decline. You don't just post a picture of your sandwich and say
"this was a good sandwich". You post it and say "they don't make sandwiches like this anymore". The sandwich represents the West.

Here is what AI could pull together about how BBC News is prioritised. There are humans in the loop.
Infographic titled “How Does BBC News Decide Which Stories You See First?” with a clean, modern layout in muted blues, greens, and oranges, featuring a stylised news webpage illustration in the top right and a small “@harrybailey” watermark in the upper right corner; the graphic is divided into five numbered sections: (1) “BBC Editorial Guidelines Set the Foundation” showing icons and short text describing public interest, accuracy, impartiality, independence, and editorial oversight, with a note that guidelines set standards not story order; (2) “Decisions Are Made by Journalists” highlighting audience relevance, programme and platform needs, and public service obligations, with a note that the process is human not formulaic; (3) “Journalistic ‘News Values’ Shape Priority” listing impact and scale, timeliness, relevance or proximity, continuity, and composition and balance, with icons and short explanations, plus a banner noting that ordering reflects both importance and overall page balance; (4) “What Is Not Publicly Detailed” listing unknowns such as exact ranking criteria, weighting of factors, use of audience metrics, and any algorithmic system, marked with lock icons; (5) “How the BBC News Homepage Is Typically Structured” showing a simplified layout with top story, live pages, news sections, and more stories; a bottom panel labelled “The Bottom Line” summarises that story prioritisation is based on editorial judgement guided by public service values and news values rather than a published algorithm

Enrichment Clubs - Correction
Dear Parents and Carers,
In the enrichment club letter shared yesterday, we had an error with the 'Netball Club' as this should have been a 'Nature Club' run by Miss XXXXX
If you have signed up and paid for the Netball Club, we will refund this payment. If you would like to sign up for Nature Club instead, please do so and we will allocate a place.
Apologies for the oversight.
Many Thanks,

‘Sweat the small stuff’ is a UI mantra I’ve lived by since I learned to code 25 years ago. This is the LinkedIn App when you leave a new comment. The flow lines should update but they don’t. They didn’t sweat the small stuff.

A very welcome but unexpected all-hands coachee farewell email arrived yesterday. This is why I love the human part of work so much. They made it!
In my time here, I had a great mentor Harry Bailey who guided me xxxx xxxx xxxx on how to use the system and navigate issues, however it wasn’t for long enough, and suddenly it was just me xxxx xxxx, trying to fill some very big shoes. I’m proud to say we did it. It wasn’t easy at first, but our teamwork and training harry taught us and the way we backed each other meant we could take on anything that came our way.

This is my trick for keeping on top of my emails. I have a placeholder that I try to clear above most weekdays. I don't achieve it every day, but it's a marker to aim for.
Clear to here daily. This emails should be top before the end of each day. To get here you can action things above, reschedule, or covert to actions.
