I’m choosing to dwell upon the positives from LFC’s start to the season under a new manager, implementing a significantly different style. Critiquing a star player who’s not performing as we’d hoped is fine, but it’s quickly & predictably morphed into more than that online.

Wirtz is toiling at the moment. Can’t question his work rate, but he looks surprisingly devoid of confidence & assuredness on the ball. On the other end of the scale, Jacquet has started his LFC career tremendously.

No real surprises so far nor a need for impulsive agenda spinning negativity. The last three times I’ve seen LFC sides go to Bournemouth we’ve had to toil physically & it’s our quality that’s seen an over the line.

Nyoni deserves a start soon, but not surprising to see Wirtz return & the pairing of Mac & Dom in the pivot. Expecting Bournemouth to be somewhat fatigued from their European exertions on Thursday, they’ve tended to be most intense in first halves. 🤞🏽🤞🏽we can impose ourselves

Having read & listened to @doctorow.pluralistic.net over the past few weeks, I’m finding it hard not to be cynical about these grand warnings coming from existing/former staff of Anthropic just months before the company prepares to go public. More critical-hype or is that just my safety blanket?

Feel for Iraola. You’d have hoped given the shift in approach & the emphasis on intensity, that he’d have been given a deep squad to adapt to such demands. Fans need to get behind him & not let the frustration of last yr spill out. The glaring gaps in the squad won’t help that.

Positives from the half were Wirtz growing into it, Munoz hard working & lively, Jacquet calm & composed. Ali’s still elite. Negatives? Frimpong frequently looks out of his depth & ill suited, Isak, utterly anonymous. A side that needs pace & variety in attack & the missing profile in MF.

Grav dropped for Mac, Munoz in from the start over Rio . Neither of the guys coming in are close to full fitness so it’ll be interesting to see how long they last. Mac is a more responsible partner in the pivot for Dom, also likelier to foul folks if he gets a press wrong.

Disregard the injury Minteh has likely been on the scout’s lists for years. The manner of the potential signing, so late in the window, seems to signal a lack of planning from LFC this summer but also the paucity of available targets that fit the bill. Get BB done as well & a MF for good measure

For what it’s worth, I think LFC have the bodies in midfield to handle the minutes. My concerns? No first team defence first midfielder, with the physical capacity Iraola requires. We don’t know how these players will react to the return to more high intensity running.

I think Jones has been repeatedly underrated during his time at LFC. A flair 10 who moulded himself into a pressing & retention focussed player as Klopp asked him to. Ultimately injuries prevented him from establishing a firmer grip on a first team place.

Great to see the relationships being built & off ball work looking tighter. Plenty of improvement to come for LFC but get the attacking editions sorted, along with a first team option for 6 & they can cause trouble this season.

I expect to see LFC improve next season as a collective unit & as a result defend better. The return of coordinated pressing once it’s drilled will help a tonne, as will the new attackers should they arrive. I’m staggered we’ve heard nothing about reinforcing MF or defence

Enjoyed that first presser from Iraola, a seems a humble, hardworking guy, honoured by the opportunity but under no illusions about the job required. Good to see him emphasise the need to grow the squad, to deal with the style of play & not to put pressure on players returning from long layoffs.
