#31daysofhorror Day 7 WHISTLE A bit disappointed in this after hearing good things. Feels way more derivative and drab than a similar film like Talk To Me that had something fresh to say. Also oddly po-faced & humourless for a film about a Mayan death whistle ⭐️⭐️

#31daysofhorror Day 6 GAME OF DEATH A supremely silly 70min film with lots of exploding heads. Cheaply made, no character development, fun practical effects but has a completely unearned earnest monologue at the end that limply attempts to elevated it, so docking a star ⭐️⭐️

#31daysofhorror Day 5 THE LONG WALK Stand By Me meets The Running Man in another grim & melancholic King adaptation. More horror adjacent than straight horror but it has stand out performances from Hoffman & Jonsson & is a heartfelt watch ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

#31daysofhorror Day 4 CREEP (2004) Franka Potente is Glum Lola Glum in this grimy Monster in Tube slasher. The early 00s make a great horror setting with the indoor smoking, coke snorting wankers and old style tube carriages creating a deeply unsettling atmosphere ⭐️⭐️⭐️

#31daysofhorror Day 3 BRAINDEAD Peter Jackson’s hilarious & grotesque comedy gore movie is the splatterfest Citizen Kane. It has 2-3 of the most inventive on-screen deaths in cinema history and the last 20mins should be taught in film school. Astonishing Practical FX ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#31daysofhorror Day 1 BONE LAKE A shocking and bold opening (crossbow through ballsack anyone?) gives way to a toothless and cliche ridden satire that’s tonally confused. Not funny enough and too restrained but some decent performances kept me watching ⭐️⭐️

Late to this but it’s a really fun old school blockbuster rooted by a really brilliant Gosling (somehow managing to pull off the geeky schlub despite being the most handsome man in the world). Watched with my kids & delighted in their emotional investment in characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
