Ecololgists!! This fall, the LEGO league's theme for their annual competition is ecosystems/biodiversity themed. We are going to need *a lot* of ecologists to help meet the demand. If you are willing to have a conversation with k-8 students about ecology, pls sign up here forms.gle/NbxitaXamK7B...
A teacher who is a fish has his fin on his hip and another pointing to the chalkbaord that says "Calling all ecologists skype a scientist needs you!" and a shrimp says "lego league jis coming" and a snail thinks "HELP!" and a seahorse says "This year's theme is ecosystems" and hot fish teacher says "Volunteer to speak with classrooms"

Dette. #sommersorg #naturkrise #endringsblindhet

🚨Not one, but two Magnapinna squid! 🚨 the #doldrums team observed 2 elusive Magnapinna sp., commonly known as bigfin squid, at approximately 4,300 m (about 2.7 miles). Magnapinna is the deepest-dwelling squid. Sightings of these animals are extremely rare — seeing two in one dive is extra exciting!

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖
A pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.

Sir David Attenborough… on your 100th birthday, we thank you. For a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with such grace and wonder. Generations have fallen in love with nature because of you. Happy birthday, Sir. 🎉
This photograph captures Sir David Attenborough seated outdoors on the rugged terrain of Skomer Island. Behind him, the ocean and coastal cliffs form a scenic backdrop under a clear sky. Sir David, dressed in a khaki jacket and light trousers, looks towards the camera with a gentle expression, exuding a sense of warmth, calm, and wisdom. Around him, puffins can be seen flying and perched on the rocky ground, illuminated in rays of golden sunlight as the sun sets behind the cliffs.

A green isopod giving the camera some rather epic side-eye. An isopod is a crustacean that is flattened dorso-ventrally, and in this case it has sturdy short legs suitable to climb around in algae. Good article, but the framing is wrong. There is not a dearth of interest in taxonomy. There is a scarcity of funding and positions, which is a deliberate choice by funding agencies and institutions. The youth love taxonomy! It's the olds that are failing to meet their passion!

Gingerbread cookies and their real life counterparts; we have a spiky amphipod (like a shrimp with mohawk), a lugworm (worm with a fat end), a hermit crab whose googly eyes suggest it has forgotten to turn off the stove, a colony of Hydroids, a squid who in gingerbread looks a lot less menacing than IRL, a red worm that in Swedish s named the "red christmasgift-worm" as it looks like a giftwrapped package, and a chonky red sea star. All images by K. Kongshavn, except the live hydroid, which is made by L. Martell. The cookies were made by the fantastic participants on a #NorDigBryo bryozoa workshop
