3/ We need to help Cuba right now, even if it bothers Trump: Canada should send immediate humanitarian fuel aid, in as much quantity as we can quickly assemble. And we should be speaking out loudly on the international stage: US military action against Cuba is absolutely unacceptable!

Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

One of the most common replies in any discussion of universal basic income is "but how do we pay for it?" and not once do those same people ever question the costs incurred by not doing UBI. We spend $1.5 trillion every year on the costs of child poverty alone. Poverty ain't free, folks. WE ALL PAY.

Fair Vote Canada 🗳️🍁 @fairvote.ca · 15/10/2025
Newfoundland and Labrador’s election shows the problem again. A party can win a majority of seats without majority support. Proportional representation would make every vote count equally and ensure real majority rule.
Two pie charts compare votes and seats in Newfoundland and Labrador’s election. The left chart shows the popular vote: PCs 44.5%, Liberals 43.7%, NDP 8.4%, Independents 3.9%. The right chart shows seat share: PCs 52.5%, Liberals 37.5%, NDP 5%, Independents 5%. The graphic highlights how first past the post gave the PCs a majority of seats despite not having majority voter support, with a message calling for proportional representation.

Canadians have been voting for cooperation, not domination. Minority governments are here to stay, so why not build an electoral system that makes them work? Proportional representation is the path to stable, collaborative politics. #cdnpoli
A Policy Options article titled “Adapting to minority governments: Canada’s new normal” shows the Canadian Parliament chamber filled with MPs. The headline argues that stability won’t come from unlikely majorities but from institutions that can function with fragmented power. The text emphasizes that voters have consistently supported multi-party democracy and minority governments, yet politicians have failed to adapt. It concludes that Canada must reform parliamentary practices and consider proportional representation to make this new political reality work.

Proportional representation means urban Conservatives get a voice. Proportional representation means rural Liberals get a voice. First-past-the-post means both of those voices are shut out — permanently.

The first chart, labeled “How Toronto voted,” shows 58% Liberal (red), 33.9% Conservative (blue), 6.4% NDP (orange), and 0.7% other. The second chart, labeled “What Toronto got,” shows 95.8% Liberal and 4.2% Conservative. Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...
There is one place, however, where Musk, with the help of his minions, achieved his goals. He did indeed shred U.S.A.I.D. Though a rump operation is now operating inside the State Department, the administration says that it has terminated more than 80 percent of U.S.A.I.D. grants. Brooke Nichols, an associate professor of global health at Boston University, has estimated that these cuts have already resulted in about 300,000 deaths, most of them of children, and will most likely lead to significantly more by the end of the year. That is what Musk’s foray into politics accomplished.
