'dear rax, how do i make this guy like me?' www.patreon.com/raxkingisdea...
I'm bullying you the tiniest bit because I want to jar you out of your fucking head, where no doubt you and this guy have starred in a storybook wedding ten times over. There's nothing like a crush for dominating your life, but mark my words: when this one fades, which it will, you'll regret devoting this much time and energy to it. That's not true of every crush, but it's absolutely true of every one-sided crush on a person who has rejected you repeatedly and clearly. A crush is sort of like prayer. It's worth doing as long as you can name what you're getting out of it, but a specific result is never promised—only whatever pleasure you can take in the process.

I once again feel compelled to ask: who finds him remotely entertaining or informative? I've grown to hate Stephen A., but he can at least be entertaining. Do so many people hate watch McAfee that it juices ESPN numbers, or am I just woefully underestimating what the average viewer wants?

I'm happy I have VO work, but when every job is me taking one look at the footage and playing spot the tranny, it does make me wonder how long this career will last for me. Like, authentic casting is good, but if it's the only time you consider a marginalized actor, it's not worth much at all.

shirley jackson you tell em www.newyorker.com/books/page-t...
ar and away the greatest menace to the writer—any writer, beginning or otherwise
—is the reader. The reader is, after all, a kind of silent partner in this whole business of writing, and a work of fiction is surely incomplete if it is never read. The reader is, in fact, the writer's only unrelenting, genuine enemy. He has everything on his side; all he has to do, after all, is shut his eyes, and any work of fiction becomes meaningless. Moreover, a reader has an advantage over a beginning writer in not being a beginning reader; before he takes up a story to read it, he can be presumed to have read everything from Shakespeare to Jack Kerouac. No matter whether he reads a story in manuscript as a great personal favor, or opens a magazine, or—kindest of all—goes into a bookstore and pays good money for a book, he is still an enemy to be defeated with any kind of dirty fighting that comes to the writer's mind.

When the U-boat's commander, Metzler, found out, he decided to keep it because it was funny, and the crew adopted "the laughing cow" as its war cry. So there's your bizarre connection between "woke" cheese and the far right.

The 7th U-Boat Flotilla of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, of which U-69 was a part, adopted a bull as its insignia. The U-69's new XO had not seen it but found a Laughing Cow box and had its logo and motto, "la vache qui rit" (the laughing cow) painted on its tower. A Nazi ship with a laughing cow.

When the U-69 was first commissioned, it was given a ship's emblem consisting of the word Horrido (tally ho) and three flag signal groups representing the letters L, M, and A -- or "lick my arse", attributed to Goethe's character Götz von Berlichingen. But later it was given a second, hilarious one.

U-69 would sink nearly 20 ships for the Nazis before it was eventually rammed and sunk itself by the HMS Fame in 1943. None of its crew survived.

On May 21, 1941, the German U-boat U-69 sank the SS Robin Moor, a U.S. cargo ship. President Roosevelt branded Germany "an international outlaw" and closed all German and Italian embassies in the U.S. This was months before the U.S. would enter the war following Pearl Harbor.

We make our own meaning. We have to if we want to survive. Clichéd maybe, but it's true. The wonderful thing about humans is, as much capacity as we have for darkness, we have so much more for the light. We find beauty and soul and meaning in the smallest things. That matters.
