I was about to post the exact same thing. It was a huge get and I think fans were a little skeptical because he had waited so long. But man he gave absolutely everything from the moment he committed. A great servant to the program.

As is often the case, we did something good but only halfway: failing kids is detrimental; it doesn’t work. But the second part of the answer (which didn’t happen) is changes to class sizes and composition. If you gave me the exact same students, but it’s 15 instead of 30, there’s no problem.

I do think the reading together can be useful, especially at the beginning to try and get students hooked into the story. I don’t think it’s a long-term solution because it is time-intensive and we need to have a graduated release of responsibility.

As a teacher, it was really tough: on the one hand, if we're trying to do a novel study and half the class hasn't read the chapter, how are you supposed to teach? On the other hand, if we just don't assign the novel in favour of an excerpt/short story, we're not addressing the problem

I think the answer to your original question is that the same conditions exist in the public secondary system. There should be a gradual release of responsibility from no homework into independent work, esp in gr 11/12. But idk how teachers are supposed to do that with 30+ students in every class

One observation to add: in all the clap-backs that I saw, across multiple social media platforms, there was a noticeable absence of particular body types. This is not a rebuke of the women who clapped back at the ad, but an observation of who felt comfortable doing so.

So while I’m glad that @ximenaka.bsky.social has taken the time to disprove Danielle Smith’s tax math, we should collectively reject this framing out of hand. Social units are not (and have never been) about dollars and cents. The finances are simply a mechanism to facilitate our desired outcome(s).

And look, I am very far left. I have innumerable problems with Canada’s immigration/TFW system. But that is a function of our dependence on certain forms of labour; that is the issue we should be collectively addressing in order to build a more just country. Not scapegoating vulnerable people.
