Fancy picture day! 💐 Photo from my collection, no date/info.
Black and white photo of two blonde light skinned children dressed up as if to be ring bearer and flower girl at a wedding or something similar. They are standing outside on a sidewalk smiling at the camera. There’s a boy and a girl, and the boy is holding a shorthaired ginger kitten.

I still really want chapters like this in all public history books, by the way. The investigation bit is THE EXCITING BIT.
[Bloch, Historian’s Craft (MUP, 1992), p. 59.] transcription: Every historical book worth of the name ought to include a chapter, or if one prefers, a series of paragraphs inserted at turning points in teh development, which might almost be entitled: 'how can I know what I am about to say?'. i am persuaded that even the lay reader would experience an actual intellectual pleasure in examining these confessions. The sight of an investigation, with its successes and reverses, is seldom boring. It is the ready-made article which is cold and dull.

Unrelatedly, my cat has given herself a hot spot where she had to be shaved for last month's ultrasound and every time I try to put antiseptic on her she acts like I am trying to kill her and fights literal tooth and nail.

Black and white photo printed on a postcard. It’s a photo of a deeply adorable shorthaired white and tabby kitten tucked into a bed. Written in cursive underneath is the German phrase for "straw widow", meaning a woman whose husband is temporarily away.

A favorite from my collection - this luminous little one from the 1960s. Thank you so much for all the donations to the shelter today, everyone. You lifted my spirits at a time when I really needed it. 💕
A color photo of a delicate and fluffy white medium-haired cat sitting on a window ledge. They are looking at the camera. What makes this photo extra special is that the cat is backlight by the sun coming through the window, the light illuminating their fluffy hair making them appear so luminous and angelic.

This is Chootie. He looks like a dog, but from one of those 15th century paintings done by someone who had only ever heard about dogs. 12/10 (IG: chootieboy)
a very fluffy white creature with light brown markings on its back and ears is resting flat on some concrete tiles with a body like a slightly inflated bearskin rug. his legs and tail are merely puffy nubs, but his front paws are completely shaved for hygiene purposes, giving him the grabby-hands look of a feral raccoon. his face is an exuberant expression, with all his features slightly too close together, including his mismatched and somewhat human brown and blue eyes. he is simultaneously ridiculous and delightful.

I am beginning to become convinced the translation IS Clayton herself. She capitalises pronouns and spells "friend" as "freind", likely because she was a correspondent with many members of the Freind family. Do I hope it is her because it helps my thesis? Yes. Do I think it is her? Starting to.

Question for #skystorians : I found Caroline of Ansbach's will and she very pointedly leaves absolutely everything to her husband the then newly crowned George II. Is that standard for queens? To leave everything to their husband/the king? Or is this part of Caroline and George's dynamic? #history

The same thing is true for comprehension of media. Ppl want ONE explanation and no ambiguity and they want to be TOLD it. It's heartbreaking. Nuance is dead. Curiousity is discouraged.
