I always want to do Inktober, but then I get behind right away and catching up seems impossible and overwhelming. Ah, well. Been going to Life Drawing sessions again (deeply humbling experience) and I drew this with acrylic ink markers, so that counts, right?

Something I’ve noticed about getting back into traditional art after about 10 years of working digitally: art supplies suck now. The quality is way worse than when I was a student, which was 15 years ago. Brushes, pencils, pre-primed canvas, even charcoal!

This is something I wish to see change via legislation. Companies being so restrictive of portfolio pieces long after a project is released. It limits hype for projects, while also keeping workers in the shadows. They really shouldn’t have power over workers who just want to share their labor.

For #PortfolioDay I'm posting something a little different. If you've followed me from X, you may know me primarily as a real-time 3D artist -- but I am also (and have always been) a traditional figurative artist. I'm excited to share work from my most recent body of work: "Am I Not the Coyote?"

My New Year's resolution last year was to make a bronze statue - which didn't happen, but I've been working on a bunch of other personal projects, so I am at peace with that. This year I'd like to read more books. I've given up on "no phone in the bed" -- "phone in the bed" is now my hobby.

Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.
