Maybe I should intuit being concise enough to fit ludicrously simple ideas into one post rather than torturing one and all with a rambling stream of consciousness. Or write a goddamn blog post instead.

As much as I joke about never really improving at drawing, the thing that I really love about my daily-ish routine is those rare moments of "Oh, THAT'S how that works!" I've always been really spatially challenged, so there's something really joyful about spotting the probably obvious.

what cis people fail to understand about transphobia is that it's not "treating trans men as women and trans women as men," it's "constantly occupying the status of Third-Sexed Unhuman who can be gendered in whichever way is most convenient at any given moment"

Spent all day looking forward to the chilli I've had on the go, and it might just be my finest work yet. Joyous day.

Getting faster at my daily 'drawing' (really just basic construction) practice. Might need to start doing multiples a day, which might help my slow development. One a day (albeit several times) isn't enough for my tastes, but I've other things to do so I have to settle for what I can squeeze in.

"Mastodon is bad because it's all just getting banned for mod drama!" I scream, as the Bluesky team enters day three of actively ragebaiting people, then banning them for undisclosed reasons when they reply negatively.

After discovering that tablet support for window managers is pretty much universally terrible, I spent most of today porting over my desktop to KDE (since all of GNOME's tiling extensions don't suit my needs and are subject to Mutter's horrible bugs to try and set up a tiling management system there

Oh dear, I seem to have chosen a compositor that doesn't support any graphics tablet configuration. Given that it doesn't look like any standalone compositors support button configuration, and few have region limitation I've a feeling I MIGHT spend the rest of my week off falling down a rabbit hole

After a week and a half of trying to battle IBus and Anthy for Japanese text input, it turns out the sensible solution all along was to just switch to fcitx5 and Mozc. It actually works!

The past couple of weeks in niche computer news sure does make me want to swear off any and all technology to go and live in the woods far away from anything resembling civilisation. Your life is markedly improved by not knowing who DHH is, or that basically everyone is throwing money at him

I've changed up my drawing habits to do a draw from observation, followed by a trace of that same thing, followed by a second observation with superimposed corrections after. I don't know that I'm improving, but I am getting faster. Being wrong more confidently. Like turning myself into ChatGPT.

Became more of a Computer Sicko this week by moving my laptop over to a tiling window manager (although my desktop is still firmly on GNOME). Quite enjoyable experience so far, although I'm struggling wrapping my head around layout switching when there's millions of the damn things to cycle through

It drives me absolutely nuts that the default Bluesky app isn't properly keyboard-navigable — either at all, or in a way that isn't discoverable. Only things that seem to be doable via keyboard are creating new posts and highlighting the search bar. Heaven forbid I just want to navigate my feed.

YouTube's auto-dubbing drives me absolutely nuts. I am sick to the back teeth of deliberately trying to watch videos in Japanese for the sake of learning, but having to repeatedly dig through menus after menu to turn the damn thing off so I can do what I clicked on to do in the first place.

Have been doing some Actual Proper Studies the past few days, and I've realised that my biggest problem when drawing figures is that I always try to put WAY too much space between the ribs and the pelvis. You could fit an entire extra ribcage in there. Learning!

I think that the last day of the last likely heatwave of the year is perhaps not the most optimal or sensible time to use the national alerts system to tell people to not use barbecues. Just a few weeks late on that.

Persona — a series of perfectly passable games that just happen to be unusually (to be fair: exceptionally) stylish. I make an exception for 4. 4, aside from being unpleasant to play, has some of the most cruel and mean-spirited writing I've engaged with in any medium. Just horrible.

God I love Salesforce. I love having my work interrupted by something important breaking in Chrome, but also not being able to use Firefox because of a completely separate and unrelated breakage that somehow consistently manages to take the entire browser with it. Excellent software, this.

I swear like 90% of my crap drawing ability is the result of trying to (often literally) fit a square peg into a round hole; trying to force myself to do construction with boxes because loads of people whose work I'm impressed by said that it's definitely the right way to do things mostly.

On one hand Fortune's Weave looks surprisingly rad despite leaning into some of my least favourite tropes. On the other hand, I'm a little disappointed about the "do the routes in parallel" thing, when I've really enjoyed my partner and I playing different Three Houses routes together

My AI statement is finally starting to come together. I've decided to split it across several pages, breaking it down into the definitions and statement together, the practical concerns (i.e. why I recommend businesses steer clear), ethical concerns, and philosophical objections.

Treated myself to a bit of game development this morning. I have unfortunately succumbed to my worst impulses, and am massively over-engineering what should have been a quick prototype. 12 hours in, and I still don't even have the most basic of mechanics 😅

Even ignoring the obvious problem of agent behaviour studies clearly showing this won't keep credentials safe… Why on Earth would you ever let these things self-authenticate with you credentials when they're popping out of a lamp, promising three wishes, and granting them in the worst possible way?

On one hand I don't think I'll ever be capable of drawing something that I'm happy with. No matter how many times I've really invested in practice, no matter how long, I'm never satisfied. On the other hand I had a lot of fun with this absolute monstrosity — and that's the thing that matters.

Sometime you wonder how business end up falling for phishing scams. Other times you sit in a hold queue for over an hour with absolutely no feedback whatsoever as you try to verify the authenticity of a weird series of calls, devoid of any detail, from somebody claiming to be the Accounts Manager.
