I must admit that breakfast is the one time on holiday that I often want an English breakfast - partly because a full English is a rare treat and I’m on holiday so want to treat myself. But European pastries are perfectly acceptable.

Cornwall does this. Also, I’m terrible at anticipating the darker nights for September holidays: last year I cycled a few miles back from the village over after several pints, relying solely on my bike light, trying to keep a golf brolly tucked under one arm.

I’d completely blanked the Cornish roads out of all my family holiday memories. First adult visit, I left it a tad late to head back one day and ended up driving to my accommodation along twisty turny narrow roads in the dark, during a storm. Large gin was very much needed when I made it back.

The first celebrity death that meant something to me. I’d been watching his series on UK Gold over the previous few months - initially because they were on after the Doctor Who omnibuses. Seeing the news and obituaries made me realise: oh, this stuff I’ve been enjoying is kind of a big deal.

14 years ago I watched all the 7 Up series in the build up to 56 Up. I was 18 and fascinated to see how people’s lives developed from their youthful expectations and what really brought them happiness, while I was still figuring out what mine was all about. #70Up has been a great finale.
