The appropriately named piglet squid floats mostly upright in the deep, full of ammonia for buoyancy, with a little tuft of tentacles on top and a light organ under each eye. It looks less like a predator and more like something that lost a bet. #MolluscMonday #marinelife

For #MolluscMonday, a grim one. The new IUCN Red List assessed every mollusc known to live only at hydrothermal vents. Of 201 species, 125 are now threatened with extinction, and the driver is deep-sea mining that has not meaningfully started yet. #marinelife iucn.org/press-releas...

📘 With the release of our textbook "Bayesian Workflow" (avehtari.github.io/Bayesian-Wor...), I figured I'd also share the content of my graduate course on the topic at UBC. 🌎 charlesm93.github.io/stat547/ The course contains overlapping and complementary material, homeworks and reading.

I would have preferred to have the "draw the rest of the owl" meme on the cover, but this will do. Seems like it is on schedule, and we'll leave some typos so you know we didn't write it with AI.
cover of the book "Bayesian Workflow" by Gelman, Vehtari, et al. Coming out later this year, in the summer probably.

Two really important papers for anyone interested in causal inference in ecology came out recently in Ecology Letters. 1st up (by @lauradee.bsky.social & @katherinesiegel.bsky.social) is this over-view paper. Really useful for both experts and beginners. buff.ly/4gZgTWa

OK, here is a very rough draft of a tutorial for #Bayesian #SEM using #brms for #rstats. It needs work, polish, has a lot of questions in it, and I need to add a references section. But, I think a lot of folk will find this useful, so.... jebyrnes.github.io/bayesian_sem... (use issues for comments!)
