i'll be using this displaced plane to represent the simulated surface, but right now i can check that everything is scaled correctly and that the computed gradient gives decent looking normals before i go further #techart

started a lil side thing that will hopefully finally let me build out my own library of tools and help me make the shallow water sim project ive been letting sit idle for now, just a distance field capture as heightfield to get things going
Screenshot of the unreal engine editor, with the third person template project level visible in the main viewport.
The sidebar is visible on the right, slightly cropped, with the outliner and details panel both showing the selected niagara system sitting in the middle of the scene.A top down view of the same scene as the first picture, in monochrome red.
It is a heightmap, the further up an obstacle reaches, the brighter its color.

saw a really cool puddle the other day
Top down view of a rain puddle, with silt and other debris floating in the water creating intricate and abstract shapes resembling meandering rivers in some parts, and sharp erosion induced runoff in othersSide view of the same shallow-ish puddle, revealing the asphalt it sits on. The intricate shapes and patterns are still visible.

got a new book!
Photo of a large hardcover book.
The front cover displays a large, highly detailed rendered image of a First Order Stormtrooper from the shoulders up. Half of it is rendered with detailed reflections and shadows, the other half fading to a wireframe view revealing the lattice of triangles and vertices making up the 3D model, offering a peek into the advanced real-time rendering technology used in the 2018 Star Wars short Reflections.

Thr cover of the book reads:

REAL-TIME RENDERING
FOURTH EDITION

Tomas Akenine-Möller
Eric Haines
Naty Hoffman
Angelo Pesce
Michał Iwanicki
Sébastien Hillaire

CRC Press
Taylor & Francis Group

icy structure i did while working on Banishers which was a fun challenge, from the procedural modeling, to the shading and dissolution at the end #realtimeVFX #rtvfx #unrealengine

making slow progress it's looking like strange organic erosion at the moment, which i'm attributing to the diffusion step used to separate short and long wavelengths since atm i'm only advecting high frequencies but computing flow rates from both it looks like new matter gets created each tick

fanart of @hayny.bsky.social's one and only IX
Digital portrait of the character IX, pronounced Nine. Only the head is visible on an abstract purple background. They have flowing white hair, emphasized with scribble lines around it, and a half dark purple half white cat-eared hat with IX boldly written on it.

print tests of some of my old drawings with our new printer, they came out pretty well even on colored paper 🎉 can you spot which ones were made with Rebelle?
close up of a print, digital painting of Achilles the cat sitting in a chair with a comfortable scarf and a hot tea in a cup. The cat has glasses and seems content. The painting resembles watercolors in texture and shading.print of an unfinished digital painting of a Splatoon inkling, looking at the viewer. The artwork is printed on a pink envelope, halfway over the closing flap, vertically splitting the image in two. The digital artwork resembles watercolors in texture and brush work.print of a digital painting on the face side of a pink envelope. The artwork depicts a bass player standing confidently, facing away from the viewer, looking at them with a smile.

a giant ladle is useful in many situations
Rough drawing of an anthropomorphic cat carrying a jumbled mess of supplies around the shoulder and a giant ladle in both paws. The cat looks backwards towards the viewer, and spills something out of the ladle on the floor

couldn't add alt text to that video for some reason, I'll add it to this gif version instead
An animated gif: a mosaic of short sequences showcasing various works in 3D animation and visual effects.
There are 9 tiles in total.

Top left: A pre-rendered animation of water flowing into a shallow basin, from a handheld point of view.

Top middle: A panning, real-time rendered shot of a mountain landscape, from far away. The sun rises very rapidly past the horizon and into the sky, dragging the mountain's shadow across the valley.

Top right: A pre-rendered animation of a machine consisting of an incoming conveyor belt, a yellow open container, a grabby arm and a filling nozzle. The yellow container is carried into the frame by the belt, filled up with green slime by the rotating nozzle, and carried away by the grabby arm in a rotating fashion.

Middle left: A real-time shot of a wooden radio tower collapsing onto a nearby cliff across a narrow breach. Dust and debris fly everywhere, and the tower forms a new bridge across the hole.

Center: A pre-rendered animation of dark purple slime being poured from out of frame onto a floating, featureless white orb. It looks suspiciously like the poster's profile picture.

Middle right: A montage of gameplay shots of a game where a glowing ball is quickly rolling through a mostly featureless landscape of hills and valleys, narrow balancing passages and half-pipe like ramps.

Bottom left: A brightly lit pre-rendered animation of colorful unmarked pills swirling, close-up. The pills are all capsule shaped, some pills emit light from their colored half.

Bottom middle: A screen capture of a 3d viewport showing the process of generating a random procedural stone structure. There is a red mannequin for scale.

Bottom right: A pre-rendered animation of an abstract looking quadruped creature walking around erratically in a white empty space.

its horribly outdated but until I muster the energy to put together a new showcase of what I do this'll be a great pinned post #rtvfx #techart #vfx

updated profile pic
Digital painting of a white orb covered by viscous, translucent purple matter in a way that resembles hair covering half the orb's face. One eye is uncovered, and closed. It is the only discernable facial feature on the orb. The background is a soft and uniform blue and turquoise gradient. Many visible brushstrokes define the gel-like substance's surface with reflections and specular highlights.

warioware DIY nostalgia got me trying out a bunch of different game making tools and I've settled on making a little cooking/gardening game with castle.xyz it *really* scratches the diy itch, I'm over the moon it's that exact feeling with more creative freedom
A work in progress title card for a game titled Charotte et le Potager Eternel. A small house is perched on top of a tall column-like rock formation resembling a carrot, surrounded by many more less detailed columns
