I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Moodle Champions explaining how to drag and drop files into a VLE. I’ve watched Learning Technology Advocates demo mentimeter in the dark of a sparsely populated lecture theatre. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Some interesting thoughts on how alternate histories can prompt critical reflection on national myths and why Canadian writers often prefer imagining American histories. What does this say about the Canadian ability to examine our own myths and beliefs about history?

Sad to see the Ides of March becoming commercialised like this. I really feel like we're losing track of the true spirit of the holiday. It's not about how many knives you can stick in a tyrant all at once, it's about the whole community coming together to stab the tyrant as many times as possible.

Conservative MP for Powell River–North Island, Aaron Gunn, is, uh, well he’s being trolled a bit for his condemnation of land acknowledgements yesterday. Message from K’omoks, Klahoose, Homalco & Tla’amin Nations: “Chillax, bud.” #bcpoli
Aaron Gunn: If the federal government truly believes in the private property rights of Canadians, they should probably stop opening every public meeting by proclaiming the gathering on the “unceded territory” of this or that First Nation.
Doing so reinforces the radical and dangerous legal concept that most Canadians live on “stolen land”. This is Canada. One country. For all Canadians.𝗠𝗣 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
𝙇𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙛𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝘼𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙂𝙪𝙣𝙣: “𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙭, 𝙗𝙪𝙙.”
March 11, 2026
Chiefs from four First Nations communities are urging the public to please approach Aaron Gunn with no caution whatsoever. He is completely harmless, though momentarily unsettled by the alarming possibility that someone might acknowledge the land before a meeting.
Yesterday on social media, the MP appeared to crash out and demand to speak to the manager of land acknowledgements, a position that observers confirm does not exist.
Chiefs whose territories make up the riding had two words for the MP - Chillax, Bud.
Land acknowledgements have never seized private property, cancelled a mortgage, repossessed a pickup truck, or altered a single title deed anywhere in Canada.
They are simply people recognizing the history of the place where they are standing.
No one is going anywhere. Canada will survive the brief moment of honesty.
Until then, Chiefs across the region continue to reassure the public that land acknowledgements have not, to date, resulted in any land back.

The author of the piece I’m copy-editing has (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 2016) in the text but Cave, N., & The Bad Seeds in the Reference List. Consistency demands the in-text citation be (Cave et al. 2016) but while technically correct that does not feel right.
020
Mark Godin @haldbeg.bsky.social · 19/02/2026
If it were footnotes and biography, it would be simple—I would shrug and leave it as Cave, Nick, & The Bad Seeds. It would be easy to find and the footnote would also be simple. But author-date makes it more difficult.

I particularly like how, if you click through, you find that the toolkit turns to various other churches and organisations for many of the training resources, humbly admitting the need to listen to and learn from others. An excellent example for all of us in mainline churches.

Would any of this had been noted if the social media post had not linked the devotion to Holocaust Memorial Day? Don’t know, but with or without this shocking juxtaposition, churches have to do better in all our actions towards people of other religious traditions.

Mark Godin @haldbeg.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
The daily devotion linked to in the post and officially produced by a relatively progressive Christian denomination repeats stereotypes of specific 1st-century Jewish groups without any critical reflection on the text, simply using them as representative of ”false teaching and unhealthy influence”.

Mark Godin @haldbeg.bsky.social · 28/01/2026
This post demonstrates the continuing need for Christians, especially but not only Christian clergy and other leaders, to have education concerning the history and traditions of Judeophobia in Christian theology and the interpretation of sacred texts.

A very important thing for you to know about Icelandic is that the word "rassgat" (butthole) is used as an endearment about cute things. So if you say someone is "algjört rassgat" (a total butthole) it means they are VERY cute. If the cuteness is overwhelming we say "rúsínurassgat" (raisin asshole).
