Williamsburg showed up. Neighbors from across this corner of Virginia came together to say something loud & clear: No fear. No silence. No kings. This is what community looks like. Thank you, @wjccindivisible.bsky.social & @indivisible.org for reminding us that we have friends everywhere. #NoKings

No better place to join in ‘No Kings’ than Williamsburg, VA, a Colonial capital where ‘where our nation’s very soul took shape, so that Americans may be inspired by the stories of the real people who, through revolution, forged a nation based on equality and freedom.’

Tomorrow, we show up. Hagamos Vaca will be at the #NoKings event in Williamsburg at 2PM at the Williamsburg James City County Courthouse—and we’re deeply honored to be speaking. Because this moment calls for all of us. 🧵

After ICE Out for Good, after the headlines — what comes next? Today I’m joining @wjccindivisible.bsky.social to talk about how we support immigrant families right here in our region — not just in moments of protest, but every day. If you're in the area, would love to see you 💛

Organizing Volunteers for No Kings 3 and Presentation by the co-Founder of Hagamos Vaca · Williamsburg JCC Indivisible
Please join us on Sunday, February 15th at 2pm at the James City County Recreation Center, located at 5301 Longhill Road, for a meeting concerning upcoming Indivisible actions, including No Kings 3 and a special presentation concerning the non-profit Hagamos Vaca. We are extremely fortunate to have Jonathan Westmoreland, an ESL and Spanish teacher in a local public school, speak with us about the 501(c)(3) nonprofit he co-founded, Hagamos Vaca, which is rooted in this community. "In Spanish, "hagamos vaca" means "let’s chip in." It’s what you say when the problem is bigger than one person can fix, but together, we’ve got it covered. That’s exactly what we’re doing—pooling our money, time, and whatever else it takes to make sure immigrant families in New Kent, King William, James City County, Hampton Roads, and other communities have a roof over their heads, food in the fridge, and a community that has their backs." We will also be organizing volunteers for No Kings 3, Saturday March 28th at 2pm at the Williamsburg James City Courthouse. We had over 6,000 people at our No Kings 2 and expect a much bigger crowd with everything occurring in our Country. Volunteer positions will include marshals, setup, sign-ins, greeters, first aid, bringing supplies, such as coolers with water/ice, etc... Please participate in some way to help facilitate a great event. Thank you!

Yesterday, a New Kent family's home was destroyed by fire. They escaped, but lost everything. It took 6 hours and crews from 6 counties to put it out. They’re now trying to support 9 kids (ages 4-23), starting from scratch. If you’re able, please chip in & share. 🤍 #NewKentCounty #VirginiaStrong

Our hearts are broken for Minneapolis today. It’s a stark reminder of what immigrant communities across the country are living with every single day: fear, uncertainty, and real danger. 🧵
Right now, more than ever, remember: we take care of us.

Hagamos Vaca started with one teacher and a pair of glasses. Helping kids see the board revealed much bigger needs — food, housing, healthcare, safety. What began as one person helping became a community stepping up together. That’s how Hagamos Vaca was born: www.hagamosvaca.org/about

Hagamos Vaca means “let’s pitch in.” We’re a community-led nonprofit in rural(ish) VA, supporting immigrant families with food, housing, healthcare, and education — care that says: you matter here. We take care of us. And we can't wait to tell you more about our work. hagamosvaca.org

Large text reads “ha·ga·mos va·ca” with a phonetic pronunciation “[ah-GAH-mohs BAH-kah].” Below, text explains: “literally ‘let’s make a cow’; an informal expression used across Latin America meaning ‘let’s pool our money,’ typically to help someone in need or cover a shared expense. A collective act of solidarity; the coming together of a community to ensure no one is left behind.” The website “hagamosvaca.org” appears at the bottom.
