HOLDING TOMMY ROBINSON TO ACCOUNT
I never expected to end up here. Tommy Robinson's accusation about me, a Glaswegian dad, went viral before it was ever checked - and I'm not willing to just let that stand, or let him do it again.

The castle looms over the peasant humans like an alien mother ship gathering their forced tribute. When the aliens (aristocrats) emerge, as in April, they are giants in weird, elaborate suits. Which is either Julian May's Many Coloured Land or an accurate critique of feudal Europe.
Huge gorgeously dressed figures dwarf the forest and castle.

Today is #InternationalMuseumDay ! 🎉 The theme for 2026 is "Museums Uniting a Divided World" so we’re highlighting one of the works on display at Wigan’s Voice! 'Here We Found a Safe Place' is a collaborative banner made by more than 30 women from SWAP, the Support for Wigan Arrivals Project.
The banner is made up of individual square pieces featuring various images including sharing food, hands of friendship, and love.

Look forward to reading, hope the launch went well. I've been intrigued about Eileen since reading Anna Funder's 'Wifedom' - during the fall of Barcelona she held down the POUM(?) office & risked arrest to get travel docs, none of which Orwell mentions. Unbearable that she died so young & why

A gallery of British character actors playing gentry & senior officers. Did you catch Amanda Root as Foyle's old flame formerly Persuaded not to marry the penniless policeman? -- he declines to do a Captain Wentworth.

Nice, though maybe next time some provision for wheelchair users? We've just managed that in our local park, led by the users' group.

As 'Rosa' explains, the #spycops were 'fabrications by the state'. Deceived into a relationship by Jim Boyling, Rosa gives evidence to next set of inquiry hearings which begin Monday 2nd February. Don't miss it.

It's good that councils are thinking of wheelchair users, but I used one of this design recently and it was very hard to push on dry sand. Also the small front wheels tended to swivel sideways because they carry little weight. We gave up. I've used a better design & I'll try to find pics.

Oak galls on Hackney Marsh. Right, a knopper (wasp) gall. Left, I've not noticed this one before, they're made by the gorgeously named Silk-button Spangle Gall Wasp (thanks, Seek app). Both wasps produce an autumn generation of parthenogenetic females & then in Spring a sexual generation. Amazing

Links to the perceptions in Graeber & Wengrow's The Dawn of Everything. They describe cultures in eg. North America & Turkey where people chose not to move permanently to agriculture or urbanism. And where fair debate and logic were valued above rhetorics of violence.

Easy to miss, but important. At @wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk we've been working towards this moment for years - the DfT has publicly announced that it is looking at sorting out mobility aid laws. 🎉 Our #MyCycleMyMobilityAid campaign looks like it is paying off.
Screenshot of a tweet from Simon Lightwood MP. Jul 21.
"Everyone deserves safe, accessible transport.
That’s why we’re extending e-scooter trials to 2028 and expanding them to new towns to learn how best to regulate them.
We’re also looking at our mobility aid laws so disabled people can use the devices they need for independence." Accompanied with a photo, the alt text for which was "Hire escooters parked in a line in a designated parking area", image attribution Department for Transport.

Petition: Ban cheap renewable energy from being charged at the price of expensive gas
Mandate energy providers to stop charging the same price as expensive gas for much cheaper renewable energy. We think they should pass any savings on to consumers, rather than keeping them as profit.
