Oak galls on Hackney Marsh. Right, a knopper (wasp) gall. Left, I've not noticed this one before, they're made by the gorgeously named Silk-button Spangle Gall Wasp (thanks, Seek app). Both wasps produce an autumn generation of parthenogenetic females & then in Spring a sexual generation. Amazing

Inheritance tax is, of course, based upon the value of assets. Dodgy tax avoiders buying up swathes of farmland have driven up the value of agricultural land. When you tackle tax avoiders by closing loopholes, you actually help farmers who don't benefit from the overinflation of land value...

In Alnwick for family so I rolled round to Barter Books, completely #wheelchair-able & always comes up with treasure, this time the 1941 edn of comic classic No Bed For Bacon. I lent & lost my nice Hogarth reprint to a friend who died last month so maybe her apologetic spirit put it there.
