Go home Gemini. You’re drunk.
Gemini screen cap

Me: I want to create 700 ml of simple syrup.
What are the ratios and amounts in cups for water and sugar?

Gemini: Checklist:
Did I use forbidden phrases? No.
Did I use user data when it added no specific value? No, I am not using user data here.
Sensitive data? No.
Correction ledger? No conflict.
All good. Proceeding to format the answer. To create exactly 700 ml (about 3 cups) of simple syrup, you need to account for how sugar dissolves in water.
A common misconception is that 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar yield 2 cups of syrup. In reality, dissolved sugar only adds about 50% of its volume to the liquid. This means a 1:1 mixture yields exactly 1.5 times the amount of water you started with.
To hit your 700 ml target, use these amounts:
2 cups (473 ml) of water
O
2 cups (400 g) of granulated white sugar

A key diagram from the post. The "dangerous middle" is where you think something is well understood and ready to implement but there are hidden assumptions. With agents they can often create something plausible but wrong.
Diagram titled 'R&D is two jobs', with the subtitle 'Research figures out what good looks like; development executes against a known good.' It maps a left-to-right spectrum. At the top, two bars show the reach of two kinds of AI tool: a bold, full-width teal bar reading 'Interactive agent (you in the loop): works across the whole spectrum', and below it a smaller, lighter teal bar covering only the right half, reading 'Autonomous factory: needs a known target.' Beneath the bars is the spectrum itself, drawn as a horizontal double-headed arrow with a pole at each end: on the left, 'Research: find what good looks like'; on the right, 'Development: execute against a known good.' The background gradient shifts from warm parchment on the research side to teal on the development side. A vertical amber marker line sits near the middle of the spectrum, annotated 'drifts left over time', and it lines up with the left edge of the factory bar above, showing the factory only operates to the right of that boundary. Hanging from that boundary is an amber warning box reading 'The dangerous middle: work that looks like development but hides an unproven assumption. Point the factory at it and it converges confidently on the wrong target. And it looks done.' The takeaway: an interactive agent helps everywhere on the spectrum, but the autonomous factory only works once you have a checkable target, and the danger is mistaking still-unproven research for development.

Here is the main 3x3 grid from that post. This is over twice as good as a 2x2 grid! Or perhaps more like a D&D alignment chart?
A 3×3 grid titled 'Nine Kinds of Agents'. The horizontal axis is labeled 'Tech Depth' with three columns: Consumer, Knowledge Worker, and Developer. The vertical axis is labeled 'Autonomy' with three rows from top to bottom: Fully Autonomous, Chat, and Autocomplete. Fully Autonomous row: Consumer cell — 'Autonomous personal agents', examples: ChatGPT Agent, Perplexity Comet, OpenClaw; Knowledge Worker cell — 'Autonomous enterprise agents', examples: Salesforce Agentforce, ServiceNow, Harvey AI; Developer cell — 'Dark Factory', examples: Gas Town, StrongDM, OpenAI harness engineering. Chat row: Consumer cell — 'Consumer chat', examples: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude.ai; Knowledge Worker cell — 'Knowledge worker chat agents', examples: Glean, Claude CoWork; Developer cell — 'Interactive coding agents', examples: Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex, Cline, Aider. Autocomplete row: Consumer cell is intentionally empty — consumer AI skipped this phase; Knowledge Worker cell — 'Knowledge worker assist', examples: M365 Copilot, Notion AI; Developer cell — 'Coding autocomplete', examples: GitHub Copilot, early Cursor.

I write talks by first writing a doc with an outline. Figured I'd feed that to gemini and let it create the deck. No go. We have a long way before the experience we have with coding agents can apply to other apps and domains. This should be a slam dunk but the plumbing just isn't there.

On your computer, select the slide you want to change.

So tired of Google just being broken by AI shit. It turns out that, in fact, the Moxa ioLogik E2200 does *not* support a restful API. *sigh*
Google query: does the moxa e2200 support a restful api?

Answer:
Yes, the Moxa ioLogik E2200 series supports a RESTful API for IIoT applications.

While it is primarily known for industrial protocols like Modbus/TCP and SNMP, the series includes RESTful API support to allow IT engineers to easily retrieve I/O data using standard web protocols.

Key Details of API Support
* Protocols Supported: Along with RESTful APIs, the E2200 series supports Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP, SNMP (v1/v2c/v3), and Moxa’s proprietary AOPC and MXIO library.
* Activation: To use web-based features, you typically need to enable the Network API through the device's configuration interface.
* Use Cases: The RESTful API is designed for cross-platform integration, allowing data transfer to web resources and cloud services without needing specialized industrial gateway hardware.

For detailed configuration steps and a full list of available commands, you can refer to the ioLogik E2200 Series User's Manual.

Joe Beda @h.olysh.it · 28/12/2025
The best banana bread recipe ever. I picked this up at a Trader Joe’s next to the bananas something like 25 years ago. Key is over ripe bananas and lots of them. Making it now. I’ll post a pic when it is done.
Image of a well worn paper with stains on it.

Banana Bread Recipe
- 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
- 1/3 cup meited butter
- 1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 1-1/2 cup of all-purpose four

No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350 F (175°C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix.

Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour.

Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

A couple of weeks ago @kenmartin.bsky.social sent me an email asking me to “Invest in the DNC” with a slick powerpoint deck attached. This was my (as of yet unanswered) response. I’ll invest in the Dems when they give me something to invest in.
Email screen cap. Text:

Hi Ken,

Thank you for sharing this.

The first attachment here is asking me to “invest in the DNC”.

What am I investing in?

The focus here is on winning but I don’t have confidence in the Dem establishment to actually stick to its values. What even are Democratic values now?Whether it is candidates with Nazi tattoos or all the consultants banding together to throw trans (and other marginalized people) under the bus with a shitty open report, I’m not sure the dems are a party I want to associate myself with.

Y’all are definitely better than Trump but beyond that I don’t know what you stand for. You talk about building a big tent but there are limits. I don’t want to be part of a tent that includes people that think that people I know and love shouldn’t have basic rights.

How about we start with a clear establishment of what the values of the dem party are and go from there?

I’m also still sticking to my guns on not donating until and unless I see change in the party leadership. There has to be room for new voices. I’d love to see the party learn from and boost new talent like, say, Mamdani instead of fighting those people tooth and nail.

I’m sure that there will be a bit of a blue wave after the trauma that Trump is putting everyone through. But what happens after that? If its more Biden like leadership that doesn’t move things forward and tries to return to a world that no longer exists then we’ll end up back where we are.

I know that much of this is out of your control. But you are in the unenviable position of being the face of an organization that you don’t have a lot of control over. I fear that if I throw my support behind the DNC I’m signaling that I’m ok with continuing with the failed people and policies that have gotten us to where we are now.

Thanks,
Joe

Just pulled up this 2022 article from @theguardian.com on oligarchs planning their bunkers. www.theguardian.com/news/2022/se...
What I came to realise was that these men are actually the losers. The billionaires who called me out to the desert to evaluate their bunker strategies are not the victors of the economic game so much as the victims of its perversely limited rules. More than anything, they have succumbed to a mindset where “winning” means earning enough money to insulate themselves from the damage they are creating by earning money in that way. It’s as if they want to build a car that goes fast enough to escape from its own exhaust.
