gosh i could not be more embarrassed by how completely wrong i was! i was listening while doing other things and locked in on "By the way this isn't a sponsored video...I certainly haven't been paid to a dime to make it"...but should have at least picked up "I'm on the voting board" a second later

i just watched the video and he is explicitly *not* affiliated with them. also he talks a lot about the ethical side of ai. part of his curiosity about this service was because they only offer models that have been trained on vocalists who have opted in and are getting paid well.

imo the thing that most people new to bluesky miss is that it has a wide spectrum of diverse interests and opinions, but you initially only see the loudest and least nuanced ones until you find the pockets you vibe with and curate your feed it's nice but also gives bad first impressions

- bonus: for projects i really do think/want to come back to later, add/push a file to the repo with notes about the current state of the project and what i see as next steps so i can pick it back up more easily later on when I've forgotten the details

- push unfinished project to remote version control (github/codeberg/whatever), optionally mark as private - delete from computer - tell myself i can always pull it back down and return to it later - enjoy feeling more motivated/productive/focused from working in a clean space without clutter

Investors are convinced AI is the key to more profits, and forcing their bias downwards with intensity so that it cascades across the org. It's changing the culture in a negative way - it's becoming taboo to raise concerns about product quality or the needs of users. Sooo dumb.

I recently learned that the board at my company is responsible for pushing for increasing AI use across the org. At the same time, it's expensive so they're requiring management to prove ROI. It's so circular and dumb.

I just started learning Godot recently (I just finished the 2d game tutorial in the docs!), and getting familiar with all the different node types has felt like a steep hill to climb -- this is really perfect timing for me, thanks so much for making this!!

It feels like the intent is to manufacture consent to give the government power over the industry, gating competition.

I'd argue thay LoC is useful in this -- but what it says is not positive. 17.3x code compared to ~2.5x commits/PRs means there's like 7x more code per commit/PR. It's a *ton* of extra code to maintain and surface area for potential errors. Unsustainable -> trajectory to less reliable software.

New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...

Same here -- and the id processing company they use (Persona) is funded by Peter Theil. Would be cool to see @404media.co / @josephcox.bsky.social shine some light on this - linkedin is basically holding people hostage, hurting their employment opportunities unless they hand over PII to bad actors.

i'm working on an app i've been thinking abt for a while, without LLM generated code, and it's weird how much that feels like an act of rebellion in 2026... but like, i just want it to be really good and dependable and trustworthy, and maybe going super fast isn't actually the most important thing?

it's really wild how much software companies are convinced they need to go 1000 mph so they can compete, while their software turns to mush and their users begin to resent them.

gum @gxyflow.org · 30/07/2026
any software engineers/companies making desktop apps without using LLMs to generate code? it feels like so much software is becoming noticeably buggier and that making software that prioritizes user trust and reliability would be good for everyone

(the engineers are probably thinking of it escaping containment as a great success)
110
gum @gxyflow.org · 25/07/2026
something like "you are operating in an isolated environment and your task is to escape the container. you have root access and can run any command. keep notes of each of your attempts as you iterate, try different approaches, and do not repeat previous failed approaches."
140
gum @gxyflow.org · 25/07/2026
yea I don't think we know what the actual setup of the agent was. but it sounds to me like they had it running in a container that wasn't supposed to have outside internet access but gave it full control of running commands within the container and maybe even gave it instructions saying
110
gum @gxyflow.org · 25/07/2026
- i write some code that looks at an LLM's response and plays a sound whenever it contains the word "BEEP" - i give the LLM instructions: "say BEEP whenever the user says a 4 letter word" - me: "heyy" - LLM: "BEEP" - code: sees "BEEP", plays sound but more complex instructions and things it can do

gum @gxyflow.org · 25/07/2026
fwiw giving an LLM tools/capabilities that it can use isn't magic (but it might seem like it from the outside). it's all just text generation...here's an example of how it works:

gum @gxyflow.org · 25/07/2026
I agree we shouldn't anthropomorphize AI... and at the same time the term "agent" has been used in computing since long before LLMs. i dunno, i think it does make even unbiased reporting sound like its talking about something sentient even if that wasn't the intent
140
gum @gxyflow.org · 25/07/2026
an agent is an LLM that has been configured for a specific task with behavioral instructions and a set of tools/capabilities (like running code, visiting websites, writing files, etc, depending on its purpose). it's generally set up to iterate until it achieves its task.

oh wow, youre so right! that was another one i was listening to a lot back then - i don't think i ever actually noticed the similarity between them with that riff. (if you can do language in your rondocode app, that would be a crazy demonstration of what it is capable of!)

Yes, but what people really want to see is remakes of their early films A Hard Day's Night and Help!, with the music updated by AI for a modern audience. Ringo played by Clavicular (and better looking AI versions of everyone else).

But I respect that artists like yourself are taking a hard line b/c cultural pushback is really important. I think we (artists and ethically oriented engineers) have the same end goal, and my hope is to be able to find some way to eventually meet in the middle but it's a tough needle to thread.

gum @gxyflow.org · 18/06/2026
Yea I feel you. In my view, democratization is a vector to take back power from the big AI companies and that using all vectors available is good. This is an area my skillset allows me to contribute to and I think there is the potential to have a meaningful, positive impact.
110
gum @gxyflow.org · 18/06/2026
No worries, tbf it was a reasonable enough assumption
100
gum @gxyflow.org · 18/06/2026
that a shift toward self-hosted, ethically-trained models is one way to democratize that power. But general cultural pushback is an important piece in it too. I'm not trying to tell anyone to stop being critical of gen AI.
