gosh this is so messed up. I hope people will ditch the app en masse rather than just giving in.
The client I spoke to said they were especially concerned in light of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s intentions to link databases of autism patients using federal health insurance programs including Medicare and Medicaid. Kennedy has also said the Center for Disease Control is “finally confronting the long-taboo question of whether SSRIs and other psychoactive drugs contribute to mass violence,” and has recently targeted antidepressants, which psychiatrists say is a dangerous oversimplification of millions of Americans’ experiences with mental health and medications. [A provider] said they’re not sure yet if they’ll stay on Headway. “It feels values-inconsistent to continue to work them for a variety of reasons, but this perhaps is the nail in the coffin for me,” they said. “In some ways I don't have a choice because I am not independently credentialed with all of the plans that I am credentialed with through Headway. Meaning, I cannot see those clients outside of Headway. I do not (and will not) want to abandon those clients.”

I started playing Skate Story yesterday, not expecting *too* much -- I mean, I've enjoyed skateboarding games since THPS1, but at this point what else is even left to do with the genre?

Given the quantum readiness target was recently bumped up to 2029 (from 2035), it seems like not yet using quantum resistant encryption is an important caveat that should be clearly highlighted for transparency. "Private" messages sent today could be decrypted by 3rd parties in just a few years.

MLS gives us a path to Post Quantum Cryptography—without a staff of cryptographers. The IETF is in the process of adapting internet encryption standards, including MLS, for PQC, so that standards remain secure into a future where quantum computers can be used to attack cryptography. We are following this work closely and plan to adopt it as it matures. Building on MLS positions us with continual access to best-in-class cryptography.

I feel very torn about this issue because I agree with what you're saying in theory, but as they point out, this legislation would not simply create reasonable guardrails for young people, but would establish invasive precedents that affect everyone.
H. 5349 Harms the Privacy and Expressive Rights of Adults and Youth Alike

To comply with H. 5349, social media platforms must either build and implement their
own expensive and invasive age verification systems (using discriminatory methods like
Al-based age estimation, biometric scans, or collection of government ID) or contract
with third-party companies to do the same. Both of these options come with a slew of privacy, security, and expressive harms—not only for young people, but for adult users
too.

Moreover, multiple studies have shown that no method of age verification is both
privacy-protective and entirely accurate; rather, each and every method endangers user
data security and threatens access to lawful expression in some way.° Many of these
mandates imagine technology that does not currently exist. And they are often easy to
cireumvent and will expose consumers to real data breach risk, ID-based systems of
access can lock people out if they dont have the right form of ID, and biometric systems
or facial recognition scans are often discriminatory or inaccurate. All methods are
disproportionately harmful to Black and Hispanic Americans, immigrants, lower-income
individuals, trans and gender non-conforming adults, and people with disabilities. And
importantly, requiring users to identify themselves before speaking also chills anonymous
speech—protected by the First Amendment, and essential for those who risk retaliation.

I've been learning Rust on my new handheld gaming device/pc and think my setup is cool. Also, I think learning new skills is a good use case for LLMs. I'm using Mistral (french privacy friendly ai company) to get guidance as I have questions, and the cost has been $0.67 so far this month.
gpd win mini 2025 with screen showing RustRover. code on one side, mistral cli on the other with info about heap vs stack based data types.mistral admin interface showing $0.67 usage for the month of april. (paying for per-request api usage instead of monthly flat rate)

check this out, this is pretty nuts... after replying to a thread about coding, i got a flurry of responses from op in the span of a few mins, obviously LLM generated. the acct (SpaceTessContinuum) says "Witch Queen of Seattle, Transfem Hacker" this AI-posing-as-trans shit is gross and dangerous
bluesky thread started by SpaceTessContinuum (@eigenvalue . bsky . social), in which it posts many quick, obviously LLM-generated responses in successionprofile for SpaceTessContinuum (@eigenvalue . bsky . social)

lol at least if that is the case, using an LLM to criticize irresponsible LLM usage is one of the best use cases out there for LLMs

Hey did you get this sorted out? I put this together as I've had a few minutes here and there today, and got it pretty well dialed in, testing/tweaking it (on my phone nonetheless! powerful laptop not needed) against the json file you shared. The full code is in the image alt text...
import json, csv, re, requests, os

INPUT_JSON = "data.json"
OUTPUT_CSV = "dedications.csv"

# If CSV exists, resume from last id
last_id = 0
if os.path.exists(OUTPUT_CSV):
    with open(OUTPUT_CSV, 'r') as f:
        last_id = int(list(csv.reader(f))[-1][0])

def query_llm(prompt: str):
    return requests.post(
        'http://localhost:11434/v1/chat/completions', # ollama
        json={'model': 'gemma3:1b', 'messages': [{'role': 'user', 'content': prompt}]}
    ).json()['choices'][0]['message']['content'].strip()

with open(INPUT_JSON) as f, open(OUTPUT_CSV, 'a', newline='', encoding='utf-8') as csvfile:
    data = json.load(f)
    writer = csv.writer(csvfile)
    if os.stat(OUTPUT_CSV).st_size == 0:  # header
        writer.writerow(['id', 'dedication', 'recipient', 'gender'])
    for feature in data['features']:
        if feature['id'] <= last_id:
            continue
        dedication = re.sub(r"[\n\r]+", " ", feature['properties']['popupContent'])
        recipient = query_llm(
            f"Extract the recipient name(s) from this dedication: '{dedication}'. \n\n"
            "Return ONLY the recipient name(s) or '' if unspecified.\n\n"
            "Examples ('input' -> 'expected output'):\n"
            "1. 'Donated by the Godfrey Family in memory of \"THE OXFORD KID\"' -> 'THE OXFORD KID'\n"
            "2. 'Dedicated to Patty Hartwell and her brother Greg by Bob and Susie Smith' -> 'Patty Hartwell and Greg'\n"
            "3. 'Donated by Jennifer and Clarice' -> ''"
        ).replace("&", " and ").replace("+", " and ")
        gender = "plural" if " and " in recipient.lower() else query_llm(
            f"\"{dedication}\" <- in this dedication, is the name '{recipient}' most likely referring to a male, a female, multiple people (plural), or unknown?\n\n"
            "Answer with one word: male, female, plural, or unknown."
        )
        row = [feature['id'], dedication, recipient, gender]
        print(repr(row))
        writer.writerow(row)

what is even happening
Sanchez-Estrada was the only defendant not at the protest [...] after prosecutors say he moved leftwing zines following the arrest of his wife, Maricela Rueda, on the Fourth of July. [...] Sanchez Estrada faces up to 40 years.
