Hahaha, yeah, I love the inanity of the d20 swing. The bonuses/stat scaling in LORE makes up for it, though, and focuses on failing forward. You don't miss, you graze, which usually does partial effects. Keeps things moving tbh.

For a feel, characters are treated like they are their own myth or legend, you get a fully customizable species, culture, and background, then your build can evolve multiple ways depending on your previous choices.

It's a d20, setting agnostic game, basically if D&D/GURPS had a child with Final Fantasy Tactics/Ogre Battle. It's tactical, but it fills niches that are missing in games like it: you get rewarded for roleplaying, AND fulfilling your niche: combat, social, environment, skill, etc.

My view on GM fiat is, like, comprehensive: - Pick a set of rules you'll get good mileage out of. - Try to make & note large adjustments beforehand. - In play, decide what needs resolving. - Don't fudge, just don't roll. - When doing resolution in an off-book way, say so and how. - Own your shit.
