Today the government has announced a commission that will look at Social Care and how it works. You can read the announcement www.gov.uk/government/n... The Member Elected Co Chair have responded here and will share more next week
We are pleased there will be an independent Commission because there needs to be action to make sure social care can always support people to live a Good Life.

People need to work together on the solutions – that must include people with learning disabilities, their families and supporters.
We would like action sooner but we know people working together takes time – this time must be used to find solutions that can stick - people cannot wait any longer.

There are urgent things to solve now though. Social Care providers must get enough money to carry on doing a good job this year.

We do not want the commission to stop changes that are needed now. For example too many people with learning disabilities and autistic people are going to mental health hospitals or being stuck there. Different reports have said good community support can change that. This is just one opportunity to change lives and use the money better.

This focus on social care including everyone gives the chance to make everything work better for Good Lives

The Elected Member Co Chairs
