I’d forgotten what a dire and disappointing experience a British post office can be. Empty shelves, tired carpet and bits of cheap plastic tat for sale, few staff - this in south London. It’s worse if you live in the countryside where Post Offices are like red squirrels - vanishingly rare

I do love the obituary Page in The Times, I get to marvel at the lives that people have had and it profiles not just the great and the good but also the bad and the truly awful. Today featured Dennis Locorriere, lead singer of Dr Hook and the Medicine Man - I commend it for this great line, see pic

Listening to a fellow bus passenger talking to his girlfriend and getting to listen to both ends of the conversation because he has her on loudspeaker. What is the matter with people?

Trump‘s advance guard arriving this afternoon at #ZurichAirport ahead of his pilgrimage to the #WEF. I wonder what sort of welcome he’s going to get in #Davos this time. Last time he came, he was subject to the veneration and adulation that he craves. This time, I’m not so sure.

Very tired of ‘Black Friday promotions everywhere in Europe, especially as it’s a US invention for the day post Thanksgiving, which I don’t celebrate. Still, all is well. I’m in an airport departure lounge and listening to ‘Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer’ and it’s not even December.

Privatized UK utility companies aren’t just greedy. They’re insensitive too. My late mother’s gas and electricity provider keeps writing to her, handily putting ‘(deceased)’ after her name on the bill. I asked them to use my details instead and they said ‘only with the account holder’s permission’.

Listened to this press conference, I heard a fantasist describe an alternate reality with no basis in fact. So Ukraine is to blame for being invaded? Quite wrong. As the article states, every US President for the last 80 years would have disagreed. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

The dedication at the front of the book reads: To the people who gave me one-star reviews because the first book "had lesbians." I doubled the lesbians in this one. Just for you.
