Big day today! It's the Dolphinholme village show, crowds of tens of people will be checking out the entries in #Crafts, #Baking, #Photography and #Gardening. I've entered #Bread and rolls so will be on tenterhooks until the judging is competed!

[Tour de France spoilers, #TdeF #Cycling] OK, the man is very good but I (stupidly) pay good money to watch pro cycling and with few exceptions, races where Pogačar shows up are dull. Top riders choose not to compete in some races because they know they have little chance. I gave up on todays […]

A hot day for #Cycling. OK, not hot for folk that live in hot places but the NW of England wasn't designed for 28°C or at least I wasn't.
Two bikes, one old and green with more spokes than the #TDF peloton, one with a spotty bell and a Bosch motor. Old red sandstone castle (Lowther) in the background.

First 100km of the #Cycling year yesterday. Surprisingly good today, itchy eyes from all the tractors turning silage (I'm thinking this particular farming practice should be made illegal. I understand that grass has to be cut but willfully wafting the pollen about is evil) and a stiff neck […]

Immigrants & asylum seekers are not our enemies. They are not responsible for the austerity, privatisation, erosion of civic life, thinning of democracy and concentration of power we suffer. But they're being punished for these things. Punished at the behest of the very people who *are* responsible.

Can someone explain why I'd want to read #LLM generated novels, listen to #AI created music or look at AI formed images? The amount of resources being put into this industry, I must be missing something.

So there's a wave of LLM-tainted fiction coming? Well good luck with that, publishers. When I checked 1½ years ago, the median age of the books I had read in the previous 12 months was 22 years. Median publication year 2002. I'm currently reading a physical book from 1955. I'm certainly not […]

Tough run out on the #Bicycle yesterday. Sure, I'm super unfit but the head wind down Dentdale and up to Newby Moss Head was brutal. Despite all that it was a beautiful day.
Stone bridge, old farm house, railway viaduct and trees just coming into leaf, all framed by a deep, blue cloudless sky.

After reading Sarah Halls 'Helm' (and 'The Carhullan Army' last month) we headed up to Little Salkeld for a circular walk taking in the Lacy Caves, St Michaels Church and Long Meg and her Daughters. A super day and nothing disappointed.

I don't own a car. I take public transit everywhere, and I do think personal vehicle use has real environmental costs. But I don't think driving is inherently unethical. I live in Seoul, and the city makes transit easy for me. That's not a virtue. It's a condition I happen to benefit from. Some […]

I didn't stop to take a photo because they look so underwhelming at this stage but the first bluebells are out all through Bouth and up to Tottlebank. Sadly the Skunk Cabbage is also flowering at Newby Bridge and by the Crake near Lowick Bridge.

After yesterday turned out to be glorious I thought I'd missed my opportunity but today has been just as nice. Ride up the east side of Coniston the back via Cunsey (after a stop at the 'little ice cream shop' because, well you have to don't you.)
