I think he has mentioned that it was discussed the reps didn't like the idea or the timing of it. I happen to know the promoter is the sort of guy who would give you the shirt off his back to push pro-wrestling forward. Sucks that the decision had to be rushed so quickly because of the war.

I doubt anything could top Sting's retirement as well. There's always the venn diagram of what the fans, what the wrestler, and what the promotions all want. Christian Cage is just doing his best work and picking his spots. Fans might not agree to it, but that seems to be how he likes it.

Frankly, I hope they do a nice run for Jericho like they did with Sting. If anyone deserves it, it's Jericho after everything he did to push AEW up. I'd be okay if he just wasted people on promos and work in a 5-minute-greatest-hits-spots-match a la Roman / Brock / Cena.
