It was such an incredible disappointment to hear John Campbell git the world's softest, chummiest interview to Winston Peters after his "quiet diplomacy" speech and not push back at all about Peter's cretinous "we're having conversations rather than recognising Palestine" line. Utterly disgraceful.

Love how RNZ chose to illustrate this news item using a picture with 100% blokes in it, including one (Trevor Mallard) who after living politics was given a job he was singularly unqualified and unsuited for (ambassador) just because he was... there, I guess. Very sharp commentary.

Hipkins spent the entire term lambasting National for choosing to give a tax cut to landlords. Now, I'm not a big-city political consultant, but I bet that however many votes he wins among, um, centrist landlords, he'll lose ten times as many among "people who can spot a coward". Character counts.

As part of my lifelong struggle to make use of surplus egg whites, I made some meringue kisses with hazelnut cream. (Also: I had surplus hazelnut cream I guess.) Unfortunately I'm the world worst piping bag operator so the mixture ended up anywhere including as I discovered later my left shoulder.
Meringue kisses with hazelnut cream, cooling on a wire rack. There is some cream in the meringue itself, and then a very lift filling that holds the two halves of the kiss together.

Yeah. Wrote a whole book about it. We make issues salient in discourse through consistent effort. It’s an empirical fact but folks acts like political issues& issue attitudes are sprung from a “kitchen table” cabbage patch. We should argue for what we want. Again & again. Until it’s common sense.

I'm all for transparent labelling, but for agricultural producers to complain about the lower price of imports ("their grain is cheaper!") after telling us for years that they have to raise domestic prices based on what households in the UK are willing to pay is pretty fucking rich.
