If you are like me and don’t enjoy configuring JVM heap sizes (e.g. -Xms, -Xmx, -XX:SoftMaxHeapSize) then finally ”JEP 546: Adaptive Heap Sizing for ZGC” just became a candidate JEP: openjdk.org/jeps/546

openjdk.org

JEP 546: Adaptive Heap Sizing for ZGC

Enhance the Z Garbage Collector (ZGC) to adaptively adjust the size of the heap based on the resources available, the application's needs, and the needs of neighboring applications contending for the same resources.

The thing about our industry is that things seem to be frozen and then all of a sudden they happen. 12+ years of toil and all of a sudden it’s there: openjdk.org/jeps/401 well to be clear, the first steps are there - a long road of awesomeness to add…

What Happened Here is the short version: for this service, on this machine, Java was not merely “as fast as Go.” Once the test moved beyond the smallest case, the Java implementation often scaled better. medium.com/p/e16a2e262fc4

Came across a little snowman early this morning screaming “Are you not entertained?!” by all the snow that fell this weekend. Then someone yelled at it to shut the hell up. And that’s when the little snowman started dropping the f-bombs. Winter in NYC.

We just published a new JEP Draft for "Post-Quantum Hybrid Key Exhange for TLS 1.3". This will build on the post-quantum ML-KEM implementation in JDK 24 (JEP 496) and is another significant step in protecting your Java applications from future large-scale quantum computers. openjdk.org/jeps/8358541
