I think it's worth noting that "big tech" has been in this exploitive mode, where the user is something to be consumed by the product for a long time. That the vehicle is "AI" devices now is incidental.

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.
DoorDash messed up.
They repeatedly left more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers underpaid or paid late, causing them immense stress and financial difficulty.
That's unacceptable.
We've secured a $131.5M settlement from
DoorDash - the largest worker settlement in NYC history and largest delivery worker settlement in
American municipal history.
Every worker will be paid what they are owed, and every company will be forced to abide by the laws of this city.

I like that if we're gonna make a whole news cycle out of one guy at Anthropic saying AI is going to destroy the world, we also get to make a whole news cycle out of a different guy saying something that's actually true
In a declaration submitted alongside its dueling summary judgment motion on Sept. 4, which was also refiled with fewer redactions on Thursday, another Microsoft exec framed Hecht as someone on the payroll to play a contrarian.

A company spokeswoman doubled down on distancing Microsoft from Hecht’s position in a statement to The News on Thursday.

“These comments reflect one employee’s individual perspective, are not a legal analysis, and do not represent the company’s views. Microsoft’s position is set out in its court filings, which explain why these transformative uses are consistent with copyright law and why Copilot is not a substitute for publishers’ journalism,” the statement read.

"AI may make your job easier, but that effort has just been shifted onto your users. They are noticing it and they hate it." I've said this before: if you bracket self-delusion, generative "AI" doesn't save labour, it displaces it onto the people who have to deal with the slop.
