Real talk, why half of the remaining games media is in Japan this week but no one can ever find a Japanese dev, consultant, journo or researcher to talk about Japan? Especially when we then get these experts who ignore the well-know fact that Japan has laws which make firing people extremely hard.

I hate writing in the sense that writing is agonizing, but it's agonizing the way getting a really good massage is. It hurts but it's unclenching some shit that's been tensed up. If it doesn't get done I am going to explode, and trying to make a robot get the massage for me would be fucking stupid.

I saw Spencer talk emotionally at Vince Zampella’s tribute at DICE last week. He clearly cares about the industry, but history won’t be delicate with his stewardship of Xbox - especially the studios they bought and shuttered under his leadership. Microsoft Gaming in more peril than ever now.

I think the only part of the film that felt somewhat like Hellboy was the scene that (apparently) Mignola partly wrote. The scene with HB in the Baba Yaga's house. I can't find where I originally read that he had a hand in this scene, but it does stand out to me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TWx...

We all love a good theory, and ep 7 of TADC is a theory landmine! But it seems it's fans are too occupied on trying to get ahead of it, guessing plot twists and predicting the end before it's shown... that they've missed out on what makes the series special. New Video! Link ⬇️

For further context twitter added a button that allows users to generate ai images using existing art posts from artists. It removes glaze and it basically reskins the artwork by using the existing work as a base. Twitter is no longer a safe space for art

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out. This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

Swen Vincke @LarAtLarian

Holy fuck guys we’re not "pushing hard" for or replacing concept artists with AI.

We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I’m very proud of what they do.

I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of Gen AI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn’t say we use it to develop concept art. The artists do that. And they are indeed world class artists.

We use AI tools to explore references, just like we use google and art books. At the very early ideation stages we use it as a rough outline for composition which we replace with original concept art. There is no comparison.

I talked about how we use ML here if you would like to know more:
https://gamespot.com/articles/baldurs-gate-3-dev-embraces-machine-learning-for-tasks-that-nobody-wants-to-do/1100-6531123/

We've hired creatives for their talent, not for their ability to do what a machine suggests, but they can experiment with these tools to make their lives easier.

T-Rex: Attention, single ladies! Good news: I'm AVAILABLE for DATING that can lead to both SMOOCHING and to DEEP HAPPINESS!

T-Rex: "Can", not necessarily "will", but it's worth a shot!!

Dromiceiomimus: These days anyone can see thousands of singles in our area looking for love. What do YOU offer than nobody else does?
T-Rex: I'm handsome!
Dromiceiomimus: Lots of people are!
T-Rex: I'm funny!
Dromiceiomimus: Lots of people are!
T-Rex: DANG. Dating IS hard!

Utahraptor: You just need to make yourself unique!
T-Rex: Oh heck, is that all?

T-Rex: DONE, easy. I'm now the ONLY guy in town who doesn't use lexicalized contractions. You know, the ones that are so normalized we've forgotten what they ACTUALLY stand for.
Utahraptor: Really?
T-Rex: YES! As of now, as of nine of the clock this morning!

Narrator: AND THUS:
T-Rex: Ladies, I have some pumpkins at my place! Hang out with ME tonight and we can carve Jacks of the lantern!!
Off panel: Oh right, that's what "jack o'lantern" stands for.
Off panel: I'm INTRIGUED... and possibly SEDUCED!

FREELANCER TIP: THE 25% RULE! The MOMENT payment hits your bank account, calculate 25% of the value of the invoice and then transfer that amount immediately to a savings account and DO NOT TOUCH IT. THAT'S FOR TAXES. Then pay yourself the remaining 75%. Account for this when determining rates!!!
