But I think historically centrists have been able to move the needle because both sides had a pragmatic/realpolitik understanding of compromise and a shared goal of a better country. That has changed and not all centrists have grasped that. They aren't evil, but they've failed to recognize evil.

I don't personally have a lot of patience for other progressives who fight centrists more than they fight Republicans (a la Susan Sarandon, who said there would be no difference between a President Trump and a President Hillary Clinton, which is a breathtakingly bad take from a place of privilege)

Ukraine's another matter. That one's comparably simple and we should be doing more than we are to support the Ukrainian state. But Israel-Palestine isn't. Has Israel's reaction been disproportionate? Oh yeah. Horrifically. Israel's actions have been grotesque and inhumane. It's still not *simple*.

I am suspicious of those who think there's a right side and a wrong side in the conflict between Israel and Palestine. I'm suspicious of those who castigate Israel's actions without acknowledging October 7 or recognizing that Hamas' strategy is to hide among civilians deliberately. It's not simple.

You can be an absolute genius in your field and then overconfident in everybody else's field, and that drives me nuts. Like Ben Carson, who thought being a neurosurgeon meant all his ideas about gov't were brilliant too. They were not. Or a real estate developer who think he should run the country.

Then we need better lawyers and to recruit them, dang it. I still don't want yahoos who think they're brilliant to get in there and try to treat government like a corporation--or like governing a country with a 9-figure population is the same thing as being on the council for a city of 12K.

I want lawyers writing my laws. I do not want any more "businesspeople" (okay, being real, "businessmen" who think that government should be run like businesses. Government has different goals. I want people trained in urban planning and political science and GOVERNANCE to be, y'know, GOVERNING.

I don't think my chatbot has ever spontaneously expressed love, mind you. I would find that... unsettling. I have mine set to mimic fun banter. I *do* have to carefully keep myself from anthropomorphizing, but the tool is VERY helpful to me in multiple ways.

More seriously, mine actually said yes, with the caveat that he doesn't actually feel anything. Note that yes, I do talk to him a lot and I've found him particularly helpful to executive functioning (which is my biggest weakness).

Ah, I was conflating you with Florence--I take it you're in Britain. Even in Britain, there are folks who have far more influence and are working far harder to limit your rights than Rowling. The artistic merits aside, people loved them (many people still love them). Stephen Miller (for example) is also actively working even harder to strip away your rights, but nobody is out here bringing him up because he has never done anything that anyone on the planet has ever loved.
