Of all the things that give me pause about ICE's draft ERO ONE statement of work, a section titled "Network, Link, and Relationship Analysis" is the most eyebrow-raising. I spent close to 20 years as an intel analyst. Here's what section 4.6 says and means, paragraph by paragraph.
Cover page of the ERO ONE statement of work. The Department of Homeland Security seal sits in the center, under the heading "U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)." Below the seal, three lines read: "Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)," "Office of Enforcement and Removal (ERO)," and "ERO Overwatch and National Security Enforcement (ERO ONE)."

ICE abducted a WBB player while she was traveling with her Kentucky State team in early August at Louisville airport. She has been imprisoned for 1.5 months and denied care for a serious ACL injury. It is the responsibility of universities and the NCAA to protect their players. They have failed.
Aminata Seck, 26, a student-athlete at Kentucky State University, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport while traveling with her school's basketball team Aug. 7, said Sadiqa Reynolds, a lawyer helping coordinate Seck's case.

Seck's team was headed to New York for a tournament, and she was taken into custody after going through airport security, said Reynolds, former president and CEO of the Louisville Urban League.

Be a Laurie. I think Laurie is probably sleeping pretty dang well at night
As the flight neared final boarding, another ICE officer accused Laurie of interfering with the operation and pressed her to help locate the passenger. Laurie declined to say whether the woman was on the flight's passenger list and told the officer he would need to contact the airline's corporate security department for information. "You're going to need a subpoena," she said. No arrests were made at the gate that day.

The next day, the passenger called her.
She had made it home. And she was with her child.

Spot-on take from @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social about the long cultural shadow of the 2010s “decade of lost millennial creative labor”: www.garbageday.email/p/you-get-wh...
There's been a question hanging over the amorphous blob of platforms, media formats, and personalities we now call "entertainment" since COVID. And it's question more average people are asking with more intensity than ever. And it's actually a fairly simple one:
Why do things feel worse now? Why do good TV shows, good movies, good songs teel so rare? Why does everything feel so stale and so boring? And I think the lost millennial decade has a lot to do with it.
Making art, making culture, has always involved some sort of dark deal with the infernal machinery of capital, but the rise of big tech and venture capital in the early 2010s changed the terms of the deal. Culture stopped being something the consumer paid for and cultural industries became kindling for digital furnaces that only wanted to monetize our data anyways. An entire generation of young creatives were paid to dump terabytes of posts and videos in a black hole, trying to entertain users long enough to be surveilled and train Al. And not only do they have nothing to show for it professionally, they have nothing to show for it creatively, as well.
And so, ultimately, I think the answer to the question
"why do things feel worse now?" is also quite simple:
You always get what you pay for.
