If you're also annoyed at #NCTE for dissolving #4C27 or #CCCC, & you're a little petty, remember that they have a lot of social media presence to promote books and conferences. Comment on those posts - request accountability and transparency. Tell other NCTE members what happened.

Being an #Academic is strange. One minute, you're hobnobbing with luminaries, and the next you're laughing at the #FartNinja your 6yo left on the bookshelf after a passing cloud made it go off.

A new experience this year at #4C26 - on multiple occasions, people walked up and asked if I was Charles Grimm (and I was - and I am!). It makes the conference feel different when you're becoming a person who is known, even though I'm not a scholar. I'm a volunteer, and that is being noticed.

I've already got a great group of colleagues who are considering putting something together for #4C27, and it is indeed exciting. I'm also hoping to continue working with my panel from #4C26, though, so it may get tricky! #TYCA26 and Cs gave me tons to think about, most of it practical right now!

This year's #TYCA26 was everything it always is: engaging, welcoming, and fulfilling. This year's #4C26 was better than some I've attended, but that's partially from building my network. Were teaching awards given this year? I didn't hear them mentioned, which made me feel less welcome as a teacher.

Daniel Radcliffe killed it as Weird Al, but I think he would make an even better Chris Thile. That's the mandolin movie we need now.

#EnglishTeachers, I'm curious what poems/short stories from British colonies I might include in my #BritLit course in the fall. I structured it this spring with works about Britain, expanding into colonies, and then colonies speaking back to the empire. Would love more #PoCo #Anglophone pieces.

I was super excited to see that #TheBeths were coming back to Atlanta after just missing them last time they were through, but then I saw it was on Halloween, and I have kids who will expect to trick or treat NOT at a concert. #DadLife #AllGoodArtNowIsFromAotearoa

I'm still shocked that I got this award, but it made for an even better #4C25! I got invited to give a keynote at Teacher to Teacher this morning because of this award, and my speech seemed to go over better than I thought it might.

Darin Jensen and Brett Griffiths receiving the #4C25 #OutstandingBookAward for their book that defends "just teaching"! #TYCA25 showing up with their message that in our moment, colleagues at 4-year schools need to stand with their 2-year peers for so of our students.

It's weird when what felt as a grad student like "name dropping" of people's work that you've read becomes references to actual colleagues you've met and worked with. Weird, but good. #AcademicLife #TYCA25 #4C25 #GradLife #EarlyCareer

Reading a student's reflection on how AI has limits that an expert does not have by analyzing a ChatGPT prompt defining "camp" in League of Legends is just the kind of work that keeps me loving my job! I don't play League, but the conversations this writer and I have had have been fantastic!

One of the funnier typos I have seen lately was from a student paper that had "Bloom's Taxonomy" as "Bloom's Taxidermy." I'm not mocking a typo - I wonder to what extent this may be more accurate for how a great concept often gets killed and stuffed to be a bad facsimile of the original concept!

Thanks to a great production of #Othello I got to see several years ago, I now can only read Iago as being a wrestling heel - especially a large, charming one. It plays so much better than the sniveling version often on offer! "And what’s he, then, that says I play the villain" - no cheap heat here!

I know there's an awful lot of bad things going on, and this is not trying to ignore it, but my mental health improves when I keep hope as principle. Eating for my health (lowering blood pressure/bad cholesterol) is one hopeful practice. I want to stay around for as much of my kids' lives as I can!

I have tried to keep the practice of touching base with the professors who influenced me, and these kinds of things remind me of why! Beyond "networking," it's human - letting someone know you think of them in their absence? That's huge.

I feel the need to reiterate the difference between surprise & shock. Surprise is when you don't expect something will happen and it does. Shock is a nervous system reaction. It's when your nervous system is overloaded by threat, real or perceived. None of this is surprising. All of it is shocking.

So, I hate textbooks for the most part, especially literature collections, but going through and providing the link for each reading and creating a separate Perusall link for it... I can see the appeal. I've not created a course from scratch in a while, but I'm excited for Brit Lit this spring!

A few food pictures because food is a daily good thing! It's also a big part of our family's pursuit of being us, while teaching our children never to call food yucky or gross. They can say they didn't like something, but they can't villainize the food, because food is often part of identity.
