This is a double must buy omnibus week with Batwoman and Ram V’s Detective Comics both dropping. Do I already own all of this detective run in singles and again in tpbs? Yep. Am I buying it again? Of course.

A Mischief of Magpies 2 is my favorite comic of the week. Spurrier and Bergara have never made a bad book but this might be their best. Credit to DSTLRY, this book thrives on their weird format size. Some truly inspired sequential storytelling through page design. Dark and sad and affecting.

Thor rules! I can’t wait to reread this run beginning to end when it’s all said and done. Probably my favorite Marvel book rn. Solid mythology tinged adventure arc, and probably a decent jumping on point

Things you can’t get from a digital advance: The paper rules. What more can I say? I’ve been singing the praises of TTB since volume one dropped, so believe me when I say this is Chris and Jacob operating at their best, immersing the reader in a moment and place and setting the board to explode.

Wrapping up A Ghost Arm Made of Angry Ghosts at my museum job today. Been an odd but wildly endearing ride and I’m ready to say I’ve loved this book. Shout out to book designer Winston Gambro for creating a cohesive and immersive visual identity that screams 90s punk!

Ive never been a Legion person so I can’t speak to that angle of the new title but I can say this: Hayden Sherman and Tamra Bonvillain are superstars And I loved it

Thor 800 is an excellent issue from the usual team but the back ups and especially Deicide stand out. Lonergan is exactly what the current marvel slate needs; something visually unique that feels fresh. Would love to see Marvel embrace more Black Label/elseworlds style storytelling for What Ifs.

Iron Chic is a band I’ve seen live through several eras of life but somehow shouting the lyrics to these songs always connects. Ran into a bunch of friends I’ve not seen in years. A wonderful night in a city I begrudgingly accept. Now someone give me a cheesesteak so I can bounce to Jersey

Top of the pile this week? Marc Spector Moon Knight 7. Caught up with this book last week and I’ve been dying for more. Pramanik is killing it, and MacKay has been locked in for years on what makes this character cool

When I’m not selling comics I work at a museum with one of the small(er) versions of the horse that killed Luis Jimènez. You may know it’s big bro as one of the least weird things about the Denver airport. Is it cursed? Probably.

Admittedly I’m an easy buy in on a lovable Mascot Murderer snuffing kids, but the cast of this grabbed me immediately thanks to solid characterization from Boss and the expressive and cartoony but atmospheric style of Burnett. Exquisite Corpses fans are eating good!

An existential quest for purpose and importance, hilariously imagined through a narcissistic cult writer’s return to life in a seedy motel. Stellar artwork from Leomacs sells every page with emotive figures and detailed scenery. Benjamin is affirming: we’re all people of consequence. Loved this.

There’s something about a new Criminal volume. Once I start, I’m completely engrossed, and once I finish I want to reread the entire series. Five Gears in Reverse is dirty and broken and violent and wonderful. One of the best teams to ever play in the genre, across mediums.

Slow and deliberate with strong character is how I like my horror. Of the Earth invests in its setting and vibe, its written open primes the reader for a tense first chapter that allows its foreboding air to build until the final page. Adlard and Martin sell each scene. Excellent issue

Hell of a start! Love the color work from Maiolo, especially in the opening sequence. The beats and timing of the pages is dialed in. Totally engrossed in the story Pichetshote is setting up: so stoked GA’s identity is a mystery. The hype is real.
