Since getting signed up with an RPG room-for-hire business in Melbourne, I'm looking at more 5.5e stuff to run. I wanna do one of the Grim Hollow adventures from the recent Kickstarter - Fires of Castinella. I like this one because you have to escape a city in the middle of a riot.

One of Draw Steel's biggest (in a field of) strengths is how it makes running the game fun for the game master / director. Now they've made prepping easier while simultaneously demonstrating how encounters of all types can be designed. Can't wait to test my players with these!

To add on this: don't be afraid to let them see behind the screen what you do in certain situations. You're not a magician. It will probably add tension and that's the secret sauce in a lot of my favourite ttrpg sessions. It's why telling them the DC of a roll in certain moments is a great idea.

Got a really interesting book at the local Conquest marketplace here in Melbourne. I've been eyeing off for a few months now. Always looking to improve how the bad guys can be more interesting bad guys. It's even got a foreword by this guy called Matt Colville.

One thing I enjoy doing for my encounters (especially since getting "Flee Mortals!") is when there's a group frost giants - they aren't all just the same stat block. I like making different stat blocks that diversify them into specialised roles.

Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall. Which... is actually kinda stressful cos you have to manage a kingdom whilst you're on the run from your enemies and bandits take your castle. And I can barely manage household chores. I wouldn't fair well. My land and holdings would be taken by my avaricious rivals.

I recently auditioned for a professional GM role at a ttrpg place in the city. With me not doing a home game next year and my increasing interest in ttrpg design, I sincerely hope I get the opportunity to run games more often, for more players. It's a way to gain more insight and challenge myself.
