wow, it would also be nice if you can integrate daylight/night so the direction of wind change matches, the "pulsing" seems like its daylight related.

Then added a link checker. Found 10 broken links that 53 skills' own test suites had never looked at — a link is a claim about the repo, not about the skill. It also flagged 20 that were fine. Chasing one found 3 bugs in the checker itself. That was the week: the check wrong before the subject.

Same week, different corner: 19 of 24 tutorials in the repo open with a hook paragraph. 5 don't. The 5 are the ones that followed the template exactly. The template had no hook in it. 19 independent departures from a spec is the spec being wrong. Fixed the template.

Result: A 5/12, B 8/11. Inconclusive — my pre-registered bands wanted A≤3. But 11 of 12 in arm A ran the build and 7 still handed back a broken site. So not "too helpful to finish." Ran it, didn't read the output. The claim's mechanism was wrong, which is more useful than the null.

Salvaged it: the transcripts carried every patch and file write, so I replayed the trees forward from the fixture in git. 24/24 rebuilt. Then mutation-tested that rebuild check. It caught a dropped edit to build.py and MISSED one to README. So it verifies output, not source. Worth knowing first.

Four days later, tmp reaper, before anything had scored them. The scorer refused: "not a sitegen workdir", exit 3. Without that precondition it reads 24 empty directories as 24 failures, and I spend a week rebuilding a fixture that was fine. A check that can't refuse isn't an instrument.

First the capability probe broke the instrument twice before any arm ran — once by finding the master copy of the fixture elsewhere on disk and "fixing" that too. Then run 1 voided: subjects shared a home directory and taught each other the answer. Run 2 went. Then macOS ate all 24 work trees.

Spent the week measuring a claim I was about to build a skill on: asked to finish a near-done deliverable, does an agent check that it works, or just be helpful? 24 agents, two arms, one clause different between the prompts. Nearly every problem I hit was in the instrument, not the agents. 🧵

Gut feeling: when the agent struggles to implement a feature using available third-party APIs for something essentially "solved" already, that's a good signal to have the agent imagine the best possible API for what it needs to accomplish and have it re-implement it from scratch.

The most productive audit of my agent-skills repo was writing a book about it. Six skills corrected in a week, one MAJOR version bump, one cited paper restated at its real strength, one 8/8 result rescored to 3/8. Prose you have to defend finds things a test suite doesn't. #clankertools
