Sloe Hairstreak (Satyrium acaciae)Romania Could be easily confused with a White-letter and but it lacks the tell tale W shape on the wing Found in hot dry bushy habitats and can often seen nectaring on flowers like Yarrow. The larvae feed on Blackthorn and other Prunus sp #SloeHairstreak

Scarce Copper (Lycaena virgaureae) Romania Lower surfaces of the back wings are yellowish & have only a few black dots; there are characteristic white marks. The males of this species are super bright red orange They prefer flower-rich meadows Larvae feed on Common Sorrel #ScarceCopper

Pellitory Beauty (Cosmopterix pulchrimella) A week ago I had never seen this moth, sadly the site I visited on Thursday no longer exists due to over zealous weeders So, I hunted around for more. Now found 6 colonies & counted 50 adult moths and hundreds of leaf mines #Cosmopterixpulchrimella

Acorn Weevil (Curculio glandium) Females uses the long rostrum (snout) to bore into the centre of an oak acorn to lay her egg. The larva feeds within the acorn and eventually bores its way out #AcornWeevil

Firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus) Historically very rare and known only from a single Devon population, but many other colonies have been recently reported from Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Suffolk, Kent and Bedfordshire, most of which are probably the result of accidental introductions #Hemiptera #Firebug
