They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

So, to give #poets here a bit of time to have a run at this, I'm posting it now. You have 12 days to prep your work before the window opens and, yes, there will be a cash prize for the 'winning' poem (you'll need a Paypal account). This is the start of a 12 month project :D
A bright yellow metal jug on a black background, on which the words 'Ways of Seeing, A series of Poetic Experiments' is superimposed.

Underneath, in large friendly letters is the following:

'#1: Yellow Jug'Instructions

1. Write a ten line poem.
2. your title must be ‘yellow jug’.
3. a description of a yellow jug must appear, in some form, as part of the poem, but the words ‘yellow’ and ‘Jug’ cannot be repeated.

Subs open 15/09/26Subs close 30/09/26

- No simultaneous submissions

- Max of 3 poems per poet

- A shortlist of 10 poems will be chosen for an online archive beginning in October 2026

- The poem that, in the opinion of the judge (me) does the best job of fulfilling the brief and simultaneously subverting the concept will be awarded £20 (via Paypal)[*]

Submit your work to
moveablepress[at]gmail.com

with ‘#1: Yellow Jug’
as your title.

[*] Prize awarded only if at least 20 poets submit their work, and yes, ACTUAL MONEY.

People of Bluesky, there's a bit of local queer history I've been writing around for some time, and it turns out a hefty, 400 page piece of it is held at Princeton. I can access it, yay, but it's $2 a page, which at 400 pages adds up! Anyone know any tiny research funding pots, or a Princeton pal?
