I don’t think the roman helmet guys on musk’s csam emporium know this one (from josephine quinn’s how the world made the West)
By now the Roman imperial economy depended heavily on African agriculture, manufacturing, and trade, much of which was in the hands of Africans themselves. At the same time, local landowners attained great power and status in Rome: by the 180s CE nearly a third of Roman senators were of African origin.[33] These were men like Septimius Severus,

So, people might have known their Sundays and Fridays very well, and specific days in the agricultural cycle (the Viking and Norman invasions mostly happened during harvest time), but they would have measured years by how many winters they’d seen, and monarchs by regnal years

Greg Jenner (Historian) @gregjenner.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Great question! Time was typically measured differently in the medieval world — in Christian Europe, people possibly knew the liturgical calendar of the feasts and saints’ days better than an astronomical calendar of months and days; most people would not have known the year, however

Greg Jenner (Historian) @gregjenner.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
It’s probably their most satirical episode in a long while — it goes after billionaires, podcasting, journalism capture, vaccine panic, woke panic, and then literally deepfakes Trump having a shit — so it’s not pulling my punches. And yet it feels like the show is unsure how to feel about wealth

This week’s South Park was funny, tackling billionaires being literal dicks on podcast, and building data centres in people’s gardens, but the show’s philosophical position is still surprisingly non radical
