Here’s my take on what Obama got right and very wrong re comms on Colbert: everyone agrees the federal Dems are terrible at comms. But the problem is not that the sound like profs; they don’t. They sound like empty functionaries who use words to try to obscure the fact that they have no ideas.

In my own life, what I run up against the most is people being really uncertain about what "organizing" describes and thinking they have already done/are doing it when that's not the case. It's true there are many different models, but there's a tendency to overapply that word when it isn't accurate

The thing that's wild (fishy) about this is that among abolitionists, "justice" is a word *avoided* in this context. For instance, in that movement you would say "the criminal legal system" as opposed to "the criminal justice system", etc. I can't imagine an actual radical ever using that phrase

Why is it important to point this out? I worry that focus on the former leads people to think more about the ruling class's personalities rather than how the market forces everyone to operate. Better billionaires can't fix a problem that originates in how we make wealth in the first place

"Control over workers" and "profit" are two parts of the same complicated process that is continually reproducing itself. "Profit" is just a word for the unpaid labor of workers (creating more value than their wages pay for) being turned into wealth that someone else takes.

The reason it is genuinely important to have hope is because the only thing that could have helped us definitively stop whatever happens today would have taken years to build. And believing it was possible and that there was time are the only conditions under which something like that can be built
