They say the other books in the Homeric Cycle are lost because they're worse than the Odyssey and the Iliad. We only know of the Trojan Horse second hand. It also doesn't make sense and is written oddly because it's a compilation of oral stories from before written language. That's why it's special

LLMs only hallucinate. It's just that sometimes, the output reads equivalently to something a human might write truthfully.

Meanwhile, Debian just voted to allow "responsible use of generative AI" 😭 All comments say this is reasonable and smart, and that AI is inevitable 😢

So, in the late 90s/early 2000s the US basically deindustrialised by outsourcing manufacturing The bargain was basically "you make the stuff, we provide design, research, services, software, and financial markets" Now they seem to be "de-servicing" as well: 1/3

A new post 🙌 I hope the AI bubble pops and it improves things, because all the reasons you list for blog income falling are serious problems. Tech writing collapsing is *bad*. I hope you manage to be seen by a broader audience. Your anti AI advocacy was a ray of light in the darkness for me.

I feel like over the past few months, after never seeing any Nature headline, I'm constantly bombarded with Nature dropping bad article about AI after bad article. How do they even manage it? Consistently dropping worse and worse AI takes, it's shocking.

You get the accents you listen to. This includes word choice. And when you read LLM speak all day long, this is only inevitable. The LLM accent becoming more obvious and my slowly increasing skill to sniff it out are meeting in the middle, I guess

One of the great joys of my adult life has been realizing that I can just pick up a new skill every so often, take a fun little class in it weekly for a year or two, and simply enjoy meeting people and getting medium proficient and not attempting to become professional in it at all!

Yes. When you remember it's plagiarism. But big tech pushes us to believe it's not plagiarism. These are machines whose whole design is to fake the appearance of thought. The smartest are most susceptible, and convince themselves that AI is both a tool and another mind. So it can't be plagiarism.

Meanwhile, google is already filled with spam and doesn't let you see what you're searching for. Plus it already does this. But they push us to use LLMs to "fix" that. We are already well down this path 😭. And we know they already fiddle with Grok in this way.

Smart people aren't used to being at risk for being scammed, but LLMs short circuit several things that make it incredibly risky for them Even going in with an open mind is risky, which is not normally how stuff works It's incredibly sad to see him fall in the hole. I really hope he gets out of it

Ewwww, bot. Those are all the easy stuff. The stressful stuff is that I have to use an LLM to "test" the MCP. Just using an inspector tool to bypass LLM use entirely is not sufficient 😭

I was stressed at the beginning of this year with being told to use AI at work Then I found your stuff and resolved to not cognitive offload and that there really isn't any useful aspect of AI to even try to make work. But now I'm required to make an MCP server, and oh wow, I'm stressed out again!

Used to identify and display myself as a software tech guy. Still am at heart, maybe. But it's all so odious that not only am I picking up other hobbies, I'm identifying myself as those instead. I'd much rather be seen as a wannabe newbie artist than a yucky tech bro 🤮 The vibe is bad indeed

Excellent article rec. Makes me think of this idea, "AI is the freedom from merit". Perhaps from "socialization" and "thought", too. It isn't actually that freedom, but that's the ad. And it's notably more evil than prior tech promises. I'm not sure what the following entry in the pattern could be

I finally figured out why AI causes such a visceral reaction in thinking humans: I am writing my book chapter on PLAY, and AI is the opposite of play. We play for the joy of the process, not for the outcome. Yes it is nice to win, to have the art/ poem, but the point of life is to play.

Learning art is the most cursed thing I've tried learning. I'm good at computers. Very knowledge heavy, yet easy to remember. Exercise, driving, etc: muscle memory but simple, not overwhelming. Drawing: those combined x 100. No amount of force gets it in. Just steady daily effort works its magic.
110
Green0Photon @green0photon.bsky.social · 13/06/2026
Because ultimately I don't actually think you can go about learning it all in some highly organized way where you diagram each piece of knowledge together. Because it's all too complicated to keep in your head just as knowledge. Everything needs to be worked into your muscle memory and eye.

The pen is good so you don't get lost constantly erasing. The boxes are good to have something simple and repetitive yet so overwhelmingly fundamental. And the latter parts of the course are the construction skills you use in everything else (aside from gesture ig). Even if it's a bit soul crushing

I like Drawabox because I don't have the mechanical and visual skill. I struggle drawing nice lines and picking points. Meanwhile, my skills have jumped enough that it makes gesture and proportion and figure drawing less impossible because I can actually judge angles and distances now. A bit.

Green0Photon @green0photon.bsky.social · 13/06/2026
Art fundamentals are fundamental. So every course is fundamentally similar, just covering different pieces of the same elephant. You don't need to do anything specific. Many artists doodled and got good enough while young. We don't have that luxury and need to jumpstart that mechanical skill.

I'd like to see more variety in these types of arguments. The doom/gloom over the BBB has kept its negative impact to the direct, obvious, but limited categories, instead of all the downstream negative effects. Already tens of millions will suffer. But everyone will be hurt in many many more ways.

Arguing rhetorically this way does concede the Overton Window of our values, where we argue about econ instead of making sure that people don't die. And realistically I'm not actually sure these convince people, although caring for people hasn't either.

Medicaid cuts? You're no longer funding hardworking doctors and long term care facilities, decimating massive numbers of jobs. Green energy cuts? You're directly increasing the price of electricity, and also killing a whole sector again. Child tax credit? Parents will have fewer kids, which is bad

To the extent they even have beliefs, they believe all the crises we have seen have been caused by "the woke DEI left deep state". Ergo, dismantle the opposition, and the crises will go away. It's like how they believe only they have public support. Any support they see for the opposition is fake.

As much as I disagree w/ u, I also must agree. Allowing people to keep jobs for the job's sake perpetuates Bullshit Jobs. Regular people taxes should be ridiculously low and rich should be high, so people support taxes and prevent wealth transfer. M4A would pay for way more than what Europe does.
