Creeping back into drawing people thanks to this account. @trueref.bsky.social (Of course I love these ones so much more than the one I did for the contest. But I still appreciated doing all of them!)
2 sketches from references. The model is sitting on a chair in one sketch with curly hair and her finger up in an excited expression. The other sketch shows the model squatting on the floor giving the viewer a side-eye.

I never thought I'd own a Fuggler. But having misaligned teeth, representation is slim. So, these little dental hygienist nightmares might just be the representation I've always needed. This is basically me. (Read: "He's just like me, for real!") This dude lives in my car, violently swinging.
A multi-color Fuggler toy with glasses on hanging from the rearview mirror. It's very bunny-coded, if bunnies were things with two human teeth and suggested limbs that were more stumps and the colors of either a really good or really bad acid trip.

Technically, the only blind box I've bought was from Five Below. A series of farting animals. It made me laugh out loud. I've been haunting Five Below like a sad bean seeking colorful plastics to make me happy. He's called "Cheeky" on the box. Need to rename...

Inspired by the unhealthy amount of unboxing video's I've been viewing on YouTube and whatever my mind was doing after midnight last night. I'm not really happy with this, but I'm happy I did it! #TrueRefDT016
Art of the woman shown in the repost. In the original reference her body is angled as if she has been taken off-guard. The art turns this reference into a fairy held by the wings being lifted from a blind box called "Trash Fairy".

The fairy has bread ties around her wrists and ankles.

Happy Sunday Fun Day. Today I went to Mis Amores and met up with some friends, found out if I was a turtle I'd definitely want to choke on a heart-shaped straw, and wrote an entire journal entry with my non-dominate (right) hand...in cursive! Still having dread about whether to move or not.
Two drinks from above on a white table. The top one with water in it has a pink straw that, instead of being a round tube, is hollowed in the shape of a heart.

The bottom drink is in a textured glass mug. Froth is seen on the top. It is a london fog and it was tasty as heck!

Ooh ooh! I wanna play! #TransMasc #HealthyMasculineRoleModels *see ALT text for further conversaion about these fellas
Silas Weir Mitchell as Monroe. He sits at a table lit in a golden hued color from a nearby lamp in a multicolored cardigan reading from an old Grimm book.

Monroe has always been written and performed with such a care for balance. He has the potential to be truly violent but chooses to practice compassion and kindness. If that's not an allegory for succeeding in overcoming toxic masculinity, I don't know what is.

They gave the character depth (helped majorly by the actor's ability to inspire depth) and opportunities to have emotions (including anger) and be able to regulate those emotions and learn from them.

In addition, the man's wardrobe is just perfect. Seriously. I want to shrink down everything he wears and own it. Promotional picture of Alan Tudyk as Wash in Firefly. He's sitting at the controls of Serenity in his orange jumpsuit, a toy dinosaur in the background.

Joss was known for his comic reliefs. (Joss was known for...a lot of things.) Alan Tudyk always brings unexpected depth to his comedic roles, portraying them with honesty which makes them funnier but also more poignant. Wash was no different.

Wash was allowed emotion and to be in a relationship where his female partner was allowed complete autonomy and respect. Seeing that sort of relationship onscreen was so great. A professional photo of Doug Jones, an actor who has done most of his work under prosthetics as creatures. His arms are surrounding him, hands crossed at the elbows and coming up to either side of his head. He's staring at the camera/viewer with wide blue eyes. The tones of the picture are blues and greens, broken by the light peach tone of his skin. I don't know the credit, so if anyone does, please tell me.

I know this isn't a character, but a person. That being said, knowing Dougie and seeing him interact with people has given me a much broader understanding of how masculinity can be expressed. The way he leads in love and compassion is something I want to express, and to see it expressed as a masculine trait gives me all the more reason to incorporate it (and how to incorporate it) into who I am. Screenshot or promo picture of Christopher Eccleston as the ninth doctor in Doctor Who.

Aside from Tom Baker, Nine is absolutely my favorite doctor. He married all the concepts of whom the doctor was and gave him depth and compassion in a way the previous doctors, who were all a little bit more aloof and novel, never had.

He had passion and compassion and hurt and pain and love all wrapped up in this spastic dude who just wanted things to be okay. I have a lot of choices out there if I think about it for role models for healthy masculinity, but this dude was played in such an earnest way that I can't leave him behind as a role model, conscious or not, of what healthy masculinity can look like.

Caught myself in the reflection of my computer screen like this. This is apparently how I look when I'm casually scrolling online. 1/2
A picture of me in my chair.

First impression is of a person wearing glasses with an unusual facial expression, mouth in a thin line and chin tucked in so much it's doubled while eyes stare flatly at the camera.

The person has long curly brown hair and is wearing browline tortoise shell glasses. They are wearing a white a-line undershirt. Against them is a cat seen from chest up. This is Sullivan, the brown and white tabby who lives with them.

Above the neckline of their a-line is part of a tattoo. The visible part shows a butterfly, though at least one person has said the wings look like a scrotum if only seen the top of. This is important to mention because if you cannot see it clearly to ascertain if it does in fact look like a scrotum, you need to know it's possible it does. But it's not. It's a yellow sulfur butterfly from the side.

Details of the three artworks. "Love of a Murder" series. Work 1: Collared and White-billed crows Work 2: Slender-billed crow Work 3: Northwestern crow They're giving you bottle caps because they love you. #Crows #Birds #Art #GoldFrames cc:@birdwhisperers.bsky.social 2/2
Two crows drawn with alcohol marker and ink on paper in a floating gold frame. This is the "Love of a Murder series: Collared and White-billed". Each crow is on a branch.

The top crow is facing left toward a gold-toned bottle cap glued to the frame, decorated with a golden heart on it and an indention to represent a beak holding it. It has a black beak and a white patch of feathers around its neck.

The bottom crow is yelling, orange beak opened wide, toward another gold-toned cap glued to the frame, with a golden heart painted on it and a purposeful indent on the side. The rest of it, aside from its beak, is black. This is the second artwork in "Love of a Murder" it's the "Slender-billed" crow.

This crow appears to be on a concrete post facing left toward a gold-toned cap glued to the frame. Unlike the previous picture, this is in landscape, the floating frame hanging sideways. The gold-toned bottle cap is dented in the middle and painted with a small golden heart. The crow looks like it's screaming for you to pick up the gift it left you. This is the bottom-most art. Unlike the top two, this artwork is not in a floating frame, but in a painted gold frame with a white matte framing the black paper and white color pencil of the crow bust in profile.

The bottle cap on the frame is not gold, but black. It has a golden heart painted in the middle of it. It's attached to a golden bowed ribbon placed in the bottom-most middle part of the frame. The crow, for what the crappy picture can show, seems to be looking toward the viewer expectantly, but calmly, with its brown eye.

This is a Northwestern crow in the "Love of a Murder" series.

Was in an art show in a gallery for the first time Thursday. Didn't win, but was cool to have the experience. Second picture showing my gold maple leaf representing my partner @tarasemperger.bsky.social who lives in Canada and couldn't be there. :) 1/2 (more pics) cc: @birdwhisperers.bsky.social
My 3 works I submitted to the gallery show. They're all in gold frames as the theme was "gaudy gold frames". They hang one under the other on a chain in a row. The first frame has two crows. The second has one crow. The third has the bust of a crow drawn on black paper which is very hard to see. More details explained in thread on the individual pictures. My face, white nonbinary person, smiling slightly while wearing my oversized tortoise shell and gold filigree glasses. My hair is braided in two braids on either side. I'm wearing a brown striped button-up. On one lapel is a pin saying "Please Use they/them pronouns." On the other side, my hand is holding the lapel with a gold maple leaf pin on it.

I also have on an anatomical heart necklace holding the ashes of my mom.

Helbros brand ladies watch. Very small marquise-shaped bezel and crystal. Gold-toned with decorative border around the crystal. Small settings for very tiny possible diamonds on top and bottom. Mechanical winding watch. Speidel flexible gold-toned band. Displayed across my hand. Old United States flag pin. Yellowed with age. I'm holding it between my fingers. A pair of silver cuff links. They are squarish, sides curving in between each point. They have embossed decor with filigree-like designs contrasted with lines like stripes, a rectangular center, and a border. Weathered belt buckle from the 70s. Decorated as if stamped into the metal material. The letters "LMS" are in the center of the oval buckle, with a line boarder around the letters. On the outside boarder it reads "LAFOLLETTE MINE SUPPLY" on top and "LAFOLLETTE, TENN." on the bottom with another line boarder at the edge of the buckle.

Had to quickly learn how to wire hang a frame yesterday morning for my first real studio show. Stressful as hell, but at least I finally got to use THIS beast! I spent the evening watching Resident Alien with my beautiful "squash" @tarasemperger.bsky.social.
Stanley brand hand-crank drill. It sort of looks like a hand mixer with a similar crank function, except there's a drill bit adapter at one end and a large black handle at the other, the crank being a red circular contraption with another handle for turning at the center.

The drill bit adapter can change sizes the same way an electric drill can, except you manually turn it.

Got this delightful 1970s "Country Gentleman" mechanical winding #PocketWatch from #Westclox for $18 from a thrift store. Though it looks fancy, it's not by any means actually expensively made. But the ticking it makes is delightful, and it seems to keep pretty decent time! Good for vest wear! 1/2
Picture of a golden pocket watch on a black velvet-like backdrop (which is actually a molded display from the original packaging).

The pocket watch is open-face with Roman numeral's in black writing on 12 white shield-shaped designs against a golden dial. In the middle of the dial it's easy to make out the company name "WESTCLOX" in faux metallic embossing along with other "embossed" designs across the face of the watch.

The watch has a large golden winder at the top and a loop which attaches to a segmented golden fob.

The hands on the dials are black. A glare shines off of the hard plastic "crystal".

Obligatory snow pictures taken yesterday after clearing off my car (and placing the thing I bought to put on my windshield to prevent having to clear off my windshield after I should've put it on because I am Very Good At Things). #SnowAndShit
My face, a selfie of a nonbinary white person with large glasses and peppered long dark hair with a maroon beanie and a black hood on, in the forefront as I dangle myself over the railing to get a picture of the snow on my steps and the snow on the ground behind me peppered in footprints. (I apparently take good pictures when I'm mildly uncomfortable. I'll have to remember this in the future. Photogenic only when physically struggling a bit.)A picture of the steps with black handrails to my apartment with the tips of my soaked Timberland boots at the top leading down to the snow covered steps that I've just imprinted with the bottoms of my Timberland boots. The footprints trail off into the snow below and around the steps. Icicles dangling daintily from the top gutters of the corner of my apartment complex. The limbs of trees frame the blue and white splotched sky behind and beside the corner of the gutters. Barely seen is a small coating of snow at the top of the gutters. A tableau of the backside view from my apartment building. The ground is covered in snow with a scattering of naked trees in the fore and middle grounds with a mailbox building and cars parked in the near background and the main street and a line of denser trees against a pale sky in the furthest background. Little clearings of sidewalk can be seen barely through the coating of snow.

Photo of a tiny white and blue ceramic turtle on a black background. The turtle's face has two large eyes, a big blue frown, and mismatched down-turned eyebrows. The turtle's shell has a blue design on it and is off center of its body and it's wee squished leg forms.

It is a small angry turtle and it looks a little bit like a boa bun if a boa bun was also a small angry turtle.

#Horology and #ClockRepair continue to be available to me at my beckoning. I was gifted a (non-working) regulator clock at an antique's store. I found both books I wanted at a used book store and they were the only ones they had on clock repair. I'm waiting for the part where it gets too hard.
A book called "Clock Repairing as a Hobby: an illustrated how-go guide for the beginner by Harold C. Kelly. What is referred to as a "regulator" clock. It is a drop down octagonal design meaning that the wooden case the clock is in is a octagonal shaped frame with a drop down leaf on the bottom where the pendulum would hang behind a little door. On this clock the glass that would show the pendulum behind it has the word "Regulator" painted on in fancy font framing the shape of the dropped down leaf.

The clock face is behind a circular domed glass door framed in a metal band. The numerals are roman and the minute numerals on the outside of the roman ones are arabic.

The clock dial has two winding arbors, one for winding the time and one for winding the striking mechanism (which makes the clock chime at each out and half hour if the clock was working). The brand is Verichron but it isn't easy to make out as the hands are blocking the writing on the dial. This is what's referred to as an Anniversary Clock. The reason is because, when working right, the wind lasts for around 400 days and is rewound once a year, thus is being the anniversary of its last wind.

Visually, this clock is underneath a glass dome. It has a gold dials with roman numbering, each number in black and backed in white which is a nice contrast to the ornate golden dial. It has small black hands which also stand out pretty nice against the background of the dial.

It is on a stand inside the dome with a pendulum that rotates instead of swings back and forth. The pendulum has four weighted balls and would rotate around and then around the other way to drive the clock.

The base of the clock which the glass dome sits on is round also gold and the feet are tiny adjustable gear shapes.

On the dial of the clock is a small area inscribed "Seth Thomas" who is the creator of the clock. It isn't easy to read from the picture.

My morning in pictures. +Obligatory snow pic. #MyFavoriteMug #MyCatIsAMood #MyBreakfastGotColdWhileIAttemptedToTakeGoodPicturesOfMyMug
My cat, Penelope, photo-ed in the center of my living room. her eyes are wide and her ears are just entering "airplane mode" (which means that they are just tilting back in an expression that looks like mild shock/disgust). She is a dappled ginger/tortie tabby cat with white markings and bright green eyes. Surrounding her are the objects of her destruction and play, cat houses, a scratching pad, a reusable shopping bag, and a string of toys.A photo of me holding my favorite mug against the backdrop of outside my window: the snowy vision of my apartment complex parking lot with snow piled high on trees and cars. My white mug has a black handle that looks like the letter 'F'. The rest of the letters on black on white spelling out "UCK".Photo of my breakfast plate from this morning. Toast with butter, a chicken sausage patty, scrambled eggs, and a pile of jumbo blueberries.

Black paper art of a Torresian Crow from my Crowvember series. It's done in white and black color pencil. The crow is shouting at the viewer from its place on a limb. I want to take a moment to apologize to all the people who showed up for the crows during November and are now stuck with...this. You wanted a fun artsy account to follow. I have misled you! #Crowvember #Oops #IAmAMess Here, have a picture of me and my grumpy satellite cat as recomp. #ConeCat
Photo of a white nonbinary person with short frizzy dark hair and large tortoise shell classes smiling in a beige knit cardigan with a cat leaning against them who is wearing a comical plastic cone that I fondly refer to as a satellite dish. The cat is named Sullivan and is a brown and white tabby with a white blase going from his chin and snout to the middle of his forehead but avoiding the tip of his nose. He is content but in the picture he looks a bit defeated. The person (me) seems far too happy (if not exhausted) to be holding this slightly bitter cat forced to wear a cone.

Don't worry. It's only for TWO WEEKS.

#Crowvember Day 30: Crow-sona I wasn't sure what I was going to do for my Crow-sona. I've felt pretty puny today. No references so I just tried to remember what I knew about crow anatomy and faked the rest. It turned out being a crow I'd like to meet and have coffee with. I want this crow's life.🪶
Art of a anthropomorphized crow. It's done in alcohol marker and lined/added dimension with ink. This crow represents me so it has qualities that define me. It's wearing an oversized green cardigan with bit brown and yellow buttons. Beneath the cardigan it's wearing a lavender shirt with purple stripes. It's wearing gold glasses and has a brown eye. Instead of being smooth feathers at the top of its head it has large curls that mimic my hair texture. It's standing a bit haughtily, one wing on its hip and the other holding a coffee much that has steam tendrils trailing up. On the coffee mug is written "Coffee make s me poop." It's legs are long and scaled with talons at the end of each toe. It looks like a pleasant creature. Something I would aspire to be.This is the same art except that it's obvious it's on a spiral sketchpad. I've included in the picture on the left side the coffee much that inspired the one the crow is holding in the background. "Coffee makes me poop" is clear in white letters against a dark brown mug just behind and to the left of the picture of my art. This experience of doing art has taught me a lot about different mediums and kept me focused enough to create.

The work is signed "Finn" "EMG" "Crow-sona" "11/30/23"

#Crowvember Day 29: Palm Crow Alcohol marker and ink. Tomorrow is "Crowsona" (which I've completely made up). What would I look like as a crow? Or part crow? I've been watching Grimm so it might be a Crow Wesen. Or it could be a wee cartoon of a crow-like me! It'll be a surprise! To me, too!
Scan of an art showing a black crow perched on a branch. It's done in alcohol marker which has given the blackness more of a watercolor-like quality giving the crow a shiny feel. The ink pen lines make up the details like feathers on the wings and bark on the branch. This crow has an eye so dark brown it appears black. It's body is elongated and it seems to be peering in the distance. I'd like to live a life from above to see who I'd be if I could experience existence from the top instead of the bottom. This is the same art but shown on a spiral notebook. It's signed "Finn" "EMG" "Palm" "11/29/23"

#Crowvember Day 26, 27, and 28: Western Jackdaw, Bismarck Crow, Little Crow Exhaustion stole me for a few days but tonight/the morning of the 29th I was determined to get it done. "Don't worry about a thing; Every little thing is gonna be alright." Watercolor pencils and pen.🪶
Sketchbook with art of three birds created in watercolor pencil and pen. A pain brush and ink pen is shown crossing the top of the sketchpad.
They are all crows. The first one to the left is a Western Jackdaw. It has a smaller beak than the other two, pale eye, and a slighter body. The Jackdaw's coloration is a dark face, chest, and wings and light grey for the rest. The second is a Bismarck Crow. He has the biggest beak of all three. Being in the middle his lower half is mostly covered by the other two. (This is mostly due to me not finding a good reference of this bird standing on a flat surface.) He has one pale blue eye. The last bird is called the Little Crow. This fella's body is big and fluffy and has brown highlights. He has a white eye. They're all facing to the left. They all have their wee talons splayed and their feet are the most detailed part of their bodies taking me the most time to line them for anatomy and accuracy Dinosaur feets are intricate!A more detailed scan of the last art photo. Here you can see the line work of the pen I used better. I tried to capture the feel of feathers and hopefully I achieved that. The watercolor pattern can still be seen under the line work giving a little more dimension to the art. Beside each bird is written, in order from left to right: "Western Jackdaw", "Bismarck", "Little". At the bottom of the work is written "This is my message to you"... (referencing the Bob Marley song featuring three birds telling us that everything will be alright. It is signed "Finn" "EMG" "11/28/23"

#Crowvember Day 25: Daurian Jackdaw Another Corvid: Corvus who is technically in the Crow family but doesn't have "crow" in the name. I experimented a lot with alcohol marker blending, testing the limits. Texturizing the white feathers. It's really interesting what you can do and what you can't!🪶
Scan of art done with alcohol marker of a Daurian Crow. The bird is perched on a wire and the perspective is from below. It's a black and white bird, like many in the Corvus family. It's face and beak are dark and it's wings and tail are black. The darkness of its face comes down to halfway down its chest. It sort of looks like it has a sleeveless white hoodie on.

It's little talons can be seen beneath the white chest feathers poking out to grasp the wire it's perched on.

I attempted to add more texture and dimension to the white parts of its body. It's a bit blocky, though, and I'm not quite satisfied with it. But I'm happy for the opportunity to experiment.

The background s blue but there is a texture of pale dilution in marks surrounding the bird almost like an aura.A sketchbook with the same art as described in the previous post. It's less detailed but more balanced in color and obvious texture from the marker. It's signed "Finn" "EMG" "Daurian Jackdaw" "11/25/23"

#Crowvember Day 24: Rook I hear you, "But a Rook isn't a crow...is it?" WRONG. It's part of the Corvus family so it's a CROW. And it's also not specifically a...crow. Cause Raven is in the Corvus family too. IT'S COMPLICATED! But for the purpose of this month it IS a crow. So there.🪶
Sketchbook with art of a crow done in alcohol marker. It's a Rook and it's standing on a thick brown branch with moss spots on the bark. The Rook is standing wide legged with it's mouth open a bit haughtily. It looks as if it has its wings on its hips in giving some sort of attitude.

The alcohol marker is applied so it blends with the other colors around it giving it an almost watercolor light texture in places. The bird is black with a light beak and neck. The background is splotches of yellow in pale green to give the impression of fuzzy foliage. It's the first picture I've done here with a full background. I am mostly happy with how it turned out. The next picture will show things in greater detail and give more impression of the texture created by one alcohol marker hitting another color and bleeding into it.As usual, the scan more clearly shows the color differentiation and texture. Here it is a little more clear the green and light green colors mingling with the brown branch the bird is standing on. It is also more obvious that there are some sharp lines that aren't diluted like the lines in the left wing and talons that highlight individual toes and feathers. #Crowvember Day 23: Piping Crow Another bird that looks like it's constantly wearing a shirt. Commonly mistaken with a Jackdaw.🪶
Black paper art colored with white color pencil and brown for the eye. This is a Piping Crow which has a white chest and strip along its neck joining like a bib. This art shows it standing on what looks like a grate, highly contrasted talons standing with claws and leg segments highlighted in white as light shines off of them. Most of the back of its body and tail is implied as it's black against black paper. But its chest is bright and soft and its beak shows out in very pale greys. It's eye is the only other color, brown surrounded by white accents that make the folds of its lid and eye socket.Same art showing it on a spiral sketchpad. This photo is softer and less detailed. The art is signed "Finn" "EMG" "Piping" "11/23/23"

#Crowvember Day 22: Torresian Crow Tried a new perspective. I don't think I nailed it but I came close. Drawing feathers continues to be a challenge. This buddy genuinely has WHITE IRISES. It's pretty damn cool. 🪶
Picture in white color pencil on black paper of a crow on a branch screaming directly at the viewer. It's small legs are far apart and its talons are splayed to keep its balance as it leans toward you and screams. Happy Holidays. It's a black crow but it has white reflections on its feathers that give it a heavily contrasted look. It's eyes are genuinely white in nature and so I've left them as such in the picture.A more detailed scan of the art mentioned previously. The whites are brighter in this picture and it's more obvious the parts of the art that I've marked in black color pencil to give even greater contrast. #Crowvember Days 20 and 21: Palm and Tamaulipas Crows Been a ROUGH week. Friend's sister in hospital. Thanksgiving shoppers #GrocerLife. So here's a couple of crows before I dissolve into a puddle of adrenal excrement. 🪶 Also, it remains nearly impossible to take good pictures of black paper art.
An utterly awful scan of color pencil art on black paper. The top crow is on a wee limb and is highlighted in white color pencil except for one brown eye. It's position is beak down and body elongated. Its beak points to the second crow which is brightly and colorfully highlighted and surrounded by white color pencil shading.A mildly more accurate representation of the previously described art although the details are no longer as sharp. It is signed "Finn" "EMG" "11/21/23" and at the top crow it has "PALM" and at the second crow it has "Tamaulipas"

#Crowvember Day 19: Northwestern Crow Apparently this bird doesn't exist anymore. It's so similar to the American Crow that they combined them. Buuuut, I didn't know that when I made the list so I drew it anyway. Revisited color pencil on black paper tonight. It's...very difficult to photograph.
Black spiral bound sketchbook with a drawing made in white color pencil of a crow's head. It is heavily highlighted in white around its feathers and it's beak. Its brown eye is framed in white dots that represent the scaled edges that are often lighter around a crow's eye as it's without feathers. It's eye is brown and has a light spot going over half of it, a sheen of moisture catching the light.Same art as before, but with an attempt at getting greater detail. It's signed "Finn" "EMG" "Northwestern" "11/19/23"

#Crowvember Day 18: Slender-Billed Crow aka: Me
Art of a crow done with markers. It is standing on a post with its body elongated and its bill open, screaming.

It's a black crow with a slender bill and brown highlights. It's eye is shining. Probably with frustration at existing in a capitalist society that creates panic and anxiety during holidays that is completely manufactured for consumers to consume.

Or it's just a crow who screams.

It's signed "Finn" "EMG" "Slender-billed" "11/18/23"Sketchbook showing the same drawing as described previous. It's on a spiral sketchbook that's laying on a red flannel shirt.
