“How did you get into TTRPGs” My best friend and I found a copy of GURPS Lite at our LGS after a Mirroding MTG draft when we were 10.

My only regret is that I didn’t order one of everything from @gravy.press.
Diet of worms, murder at murder manor, foxtrot uniform, and Ex Inferis.

If you submitted to the Appendix N Jam, I hope you're reading and commenting on other folks submissions! It is so easy to tunnel vision on making, forgetting that the artists and writers that you admire developed their skill and crucial aesthetic sensibilities by consuming and thinking about media.

Thank you! It's crazy every time I see '23 days, 21 hours before the deadline' on the submission page, I really entered a flow state when I put it together

I kept thinking “it’s like we’re reading different threads,” and we literally were. Wild. If you reduce Cam’s take to how you’ve characterized it, it’s very agreeable, but extremely cold. I didn’t read it like that, and I think I’ve articulated my response to my satisfaction.

Will, Cam brought up player skill directly in the post that I quoted, and he started the thread by referencing discourse in the OSR.

I was responding to what he literally said in this thread, but let’s move on.

Wild how hard it is for some folks to imagine having different rules for Walmart and your small business
020
Gravy Press | boRyan @gravy.press · 10/08/2026
Ok so I guess I’m saying that in my view, if the dice are deciding whether you get a benefit from your cleverness or RP as Cam put it, you are not exercising skill. If the rules are deciding it, that can certainly be interesting, but it’s no more or less arbitrary than the GM deciding.
110
Gravy Press | boRyan @gravy.press · 10/08/2026
My reading of the principia apocrypha is that rulings replace an abundance of rules in the text, not that they are intended to supersede them where they exist.
120
Gravy Press | boRyan @gravy.press · 10/08/2026
Cam said, “it doesn’t matter how clever my RP is or my ideas are, if the GM is final arbiter of failure or success, none of that matters. The only “skill” is persuading them.” This is my beef. I think your cleverness and RP *only* matter if the GM has the final say. Or else it’s “whoops you botch”

They’ve well deserved their opinion, my own work is reflection of the ways I don’t agree with this take 🤷‍♂️

Gravy Press | boRyan @gravy.press · 10/08/2026
It seems like OP’s issue is with games where the guidance is centered around rulings, which they are characterizing as fiat. I think they just don’t like those kind of games, which is fine… plenty of people find the conversation of “this should work” more interesting than rolling d20 + mod
130
Gravy Press | boRyan @gravy.press · 10/08/2026
Well, no, because everything is GM fiat up to that point. All we can do is roll dice now.
110
Gravy Press | boRyan @gravy.press · 10/08/2026
Idk, the alternative is, what? The dice are the final arbiter?

(5/?) Spell of the World-Weavers by @gravy.press Love everything Bo illustrates so I’m biased in saying it’s beautiful front & back. All the art oozes character. Worldbuilding done in such a short space is great. Excellent Pointcrawl with stellar loops and foreshadowing! itch.io/jam/appx-n-j...

1. Spell of the World-Weavers by @gravy.press An incredibly unique science-fantasy pointcrawl atop a living Mother machine ⚛ Beautiful art, just enough worldbuilding to tease the imagination, and heartbreaking text delivered offhandedly. PCs want to help these people, players know they'll die

Forgot bona fides. When reviewing my adventure Beneath the Muckfort, Cairn author Yochai Gal said “he’s the only one who actually used the rules I made!” I’m paraphrasing, but I think I have a particular talent to leverage the rules of a system when writing adventures. I also draw good

They really think this motherfucker is going to live forever. They keep having Vance eat shit, hard to see how he keeps maga rolling. We all just watched Kamala go from border czar to not-the-president.

Just finished gradient descent in 13 ~3 hour sessions, every other week. Best campaign I’ve run so far. Excellent pacing for a group of adults. We played on a regular weeknight, which is I think another good strategy to keep folks showing up.

It is worth noting that the tokens lose the ability to make treasures if the king is removed. If that’s not intended, it should be templated as “…token with ‘whenever this deals combat damage to a player, create a treasure token’”

It makes 1/1s that have to connect to generate extra mana, and doesn’t do anything if it dies on the spot. It’s probably bad in modern magic lol (which is not to say I don’t like it!)

For what it’s worth, I think you should include a sample adventure. You could structure it in a way that helps a blorb enthusiast move towards your preferred style of play.

Mythic Bastionland is probably the most successful recent example of a product that seeks to create this type of “the adventure will follow” type of play experience.
